John 9:28-34

28 Then they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples. 29 We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from.”

30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. 32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

34 They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.

Many of us are familiar with the account of John 9 that deals with the healing of the blind man.

It is equally important to note the events that occurred just before Jesus encountered the blind man. Jesus was accused of being demon possessed by the Jews. They took up stones to throw at Him in the Temple environment.

John 8:59

59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

We must never doubt the viciousness, brutality and callousness of those who represent a religious system and principality. Their actions will betray them every time.

Jesus read the prophecy by Isaiah concerning Him in the synagogue in Nazareth….. He read that there is an anointing over His life….

To proclaim liberty to the captives

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

The healing occurred on the Sabbath which was forbidden.

Jesus was driven by His purpose imparted to Him by His Father to bring reform to the religious, oppressive regime of the day

Within this environment, the moment a voice is perceived as a “voice of dissent”, that voice immediately gets labeled as a “troubler of Israel” – or being demon possessed.

Jesus provoked this regime at every encounter.

This hedonistic, post modern culture does not celebrate any doctrine that would lead to a reformation and a renewed zeal in the hearts of believers.

Jesus refused to patronize this order. Jesus demonstrated great compassion towards the ostracized, the disadvantaged, the oppressed, the taxpayer, repentant sinners, but to the defenders and advocates of this religious regime, He called them offensive names to their faces. Jesus was just as provocative and confrontational to the religious, idolatrous principality as the Old Testament prophets.

Jesus knew beforehand that this would be the regime that will hand him over for crucifixion, so He did not allow their reception of Him to influence His agenda on the earth.

This regime was satisfied as long as this man remained blind; they could do whatever they wanted with him; they could even rob him right under his nose…. he would not know who stole from him. Instead of celebrating the supernatural miracle of healing, they chose to attack the supernatural simply because it was on the Sabbath. The glorious reality that a man was healed in their presence was of little importance.

They tried to lay the sin at the feet of his parents and his family – perhaps he was born blind because they had sinned

Jesus destroyed the entire argument by declaring that the man’s blindness was an opportunity for the works of God to be revealed in him. He healed the man of his blindness. This is the work of God, that we believe in whom He sent.

The blindness of the religious regime was that they could not receive Jesus, as the gift of God, a Saviour that they were awaiting for a great number of years

John 9

30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. 32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

34 They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.

When our eyes are opened by Christ through His Word, our mind is also opened. The understanding of the blind man concerning the Word of God is also upgraded.

This regime now accuses him of being a teacher and of course, he was cast out. Why was he cast out – because he challenged their own theology.

Don’t think that it will be any different for those who carry their Cross to follow Jesus. We will attract the exact, same level of persecution and harassment from this regime.

Matthew 5:10

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,

For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

John 9

35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”

37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”

38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.

Once Jesus heard – The scriptures say that Jesus found him – this means that Jesus went looking for him. If we stand up for Christ and His Word – we will never remain “cast out”. Christ will find us; the goodness of God will find us; the gift of God will locate us.

This is a fundamental benefit of covenantal relationships.

Jesus explains this truth clearly :

Matthew 10:32-33

32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

It seems simple enough; but there is a veiled inference. If we deny the Christ, the One who has been sent by God into our lives, do not think for a moment that all will be well. Jesus says that He will inform the Father concerning the denial.

He will say of that person like He said to the foolish virgins :

Matthew 25

11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us!’

12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

This is an example of being denied by the Lord. Receive the One who is sent to you. When we do this, we can be assured of also being celebrated by the Father

Once the encounter between the blind man and Jesus takes place, everything changes. The object of our worship changes.

Our respect and honor also changes towards those who carry a discernible spirit of Christ in them. These are mortal men and women who are carriers of the Spirit of God; those who reflect His nature and make the Lord visible.

When Christ is formed in us, we carry the same militant spirit of resistance against oppressive regimes.

For the blind man, this was a battle for his dignity

Carrying the Cross requires a profound spirit of perseverance, to walk against contrary winds – focused on finishing righteous and faithful to the end.

Hebrews 3

14 For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. 15 Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.”

Let us make this our anthem and our purpose:

Faithfulness to the end. We will be joint heirs to everything that belongs to Christ

The principles that we learn as young boys and girls influence most decisions we would make as adults. We have been listening to our President recently and our hearts were warmed as he demonstrated great compassion towards the people of South Africa, providing funds for the unemployed and increasing the funding for social welfare. He did not acquire this ethos from books or listening to motivational speeches. For those who lived during the dark years of apartheid, where the majority of people were kept in a state of blindness,

he was an integral part of the struggle against an oppressive regime.

This is the point … we never lose the values that we learn growing up; we will resist with all our might any form of oppression from the religious regime; we refuse to be intimidated by imprisonment, beatings or an assortment of veiled threats. This is a battle for our values, doctrine and our dignity as free men and women who have been redeemed and liberated by Christ Jesus, the Son of God.

We declare like the blind man …….

“Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

Confess the Lord, and He will confess us!

Muitos de nós estão familiarizados com o relato de João 9 que trata da cura do cego.É igualmente importante observar os eventos que ocorreram antes de Jesus encontrar o cego. Jesus foi acusado de ser demônio possuído pelos judeus. Eles pegaram pedras para jogá-lo no ambiente do templo.

João 8:59 Então eles pegaram pedras para lhe atirarem; mas Jesus ocultou-se, e saiu do templo

Nunca devemos duvidar da crueldade, brutalidade e insensibilidade daqueles que representam um sistema religioso e principado. Suas ações os trairão o tempo todo.

Jesus leu a profecia de Isaías a respeito dEle na sinagoga de Nazaré… Ele leu que há uma unção sobre Sua vida. Proclamar liberdade aos cativos e recuperação da visão para os cegos, Colocar em liberdade aqueles que são oprimidos;

A cura ocorreu no sábado, que era proibido.

Jesus foi movido pelo Seu propósito que Lhe foi dado pelo Pai, para trazer reformas ao regime religioso e opressivo da época.

Nesse ambiente, no momento em que uma voz é percebida como uma “voz de dissidência”, essa voz é imediatamente rotulada como “perturbadora de Israel” – ou sendo possuída por demônios. Jesus provocou esse regime a cada encontro. Essa cultura pós-moderna hedonista não celebra nenhuma doutrina que levaria a uma reforma e um zelo renovado no coração dos crentes.

Jesus se recusou a patrocinar esta ordem. Jesus demonstrou grande compaixão pelos pecadores ostracizados, desfavorecidos, oprimidos, contribuintes e arrependidos, mas para os defensores desse regime religioso, ele os chamou de nomes ofensivos face a face. Jesus foi tão provocativo e confrontador com o principado religioso e idólatra quanto os profetas do Antigo Testamento. Jesus sabia de antemão que este seria o regime que o entregariapara a crucificação, de modo que não permitiu que a recepção dEle influenciasse Sua agenda na terra.

Este regime estava satisfeito enquanto esse homem permanecessecego; eles poderiam fazer o que quisessem com ele; eles poderiam até roubá-lo bem debaixo do nariz dele. ele não saberia quem roubou dele. Em vez de celebrar o milagre sobrenatural da cura, eles escolheram atacar o sobrenatural simplesmente porque estava no sábado. A gloriosa realidade de que um homem foi curado na presença deles era de pouca importância.

Eles tentaram colocar o pecado aos pés de seus pais e sua família – talvez ele tenha nascido cego porque havia pecado.

Jesus destruiu todo o argumento declarando que a cegueira do homem era uma oportunidade para as obras de Deus serem reveladas nele. Ele curou o homem de sua cegueira. Esta é a obra de Deus, que cremos em quem Ele enviou.

A cegueira do regime religioso era que eles não podiam receber Jesus, como presente de Deus, um Salvador que estavam aguardando por um grande número de anos.

 

João 9

Quando nossos olhos são abertos por Cristo através de Sua Palavra, nossa mente também é aberta. O entendimento do cego a respeito da Palavra de Deus também é aprimorado.

Esse regime agora o acusa de ser professor e, é claro, ele foi expulso. Por que ele foi expulso – porque ele desafiou teologia deles.

Não pense que será diferente para aqueles que carregam sua cruz seguir Jesus. Atrairemos exatamente o mesmo nível de perseguição e assédio desse regime.

 

Mateus 5

10 Abençoados são os perseguidos por causa da justiça, porque deles é o reino do céu.

João 9:35 Jesus ouviu que o haviam expulsado, e achando-o, disse-lhe: Crês tu no Filho de Deus? 36 Ele respondeu e disse: Quem é ele, Senhor, para que eu possa crer nele? 37 E Jesus lhe disse: Tu já o tens visto, e é ele quem fala contigo. 38 E ele disse: Senhor, eu creio, e ele o adorou.

Uma vez que Jesus ouviu – As escrituras dizem que Jesus o encontrou – isso significa que Jesus foi procurá-lo. Se defendermos Cristo e Sua Palavra – nunca permaneceremos “expulsos”. Cristo nos encontrará; a bondade de Deus nos encontrará; o dom de Deus nos localizará.

Esse é um benefício fundamental dos relacionamentos de aliança.

Jesus explica essa verdade claramente:

Mateus 10

32 Portanto, qualquer que me confessar diante dos homens, eu também o confessarei diante de meu Pai que está no céu. 33 Mas qualquer que me negar diante dos homens, eu também o negarei diante de meu Pai que está no céu.

Parece bastante simples; mas há uma inferência velada. Se negarmos o Cristo, aquele que foi enviado por Deus em nossas vidas, não pense por um momento que tudo ficará bem. Jesus diz que informará o Pai sobre a negação.

Ele dirá daquela pessoa como disse às virgens tolas:

Mateus 25

11 Depois chegaram também as outras virgens, dizendo: Senhor, Senhor, abre para nós. 12 Mas ele, respondendo, disse: Em verdade vos digo, eu não vos conheço.

Este é um exemplo de ser negado pelo Senhor. Receba Aquele que lhe é enviado. Quando fazemos isso, podemos ter certeza de também sermos celebrados pelo Pai.

Uma vez que o encontro entre o cego e Jesus acontece, tudo muda. O objeto de nossa adoração muda. Nosso respeito e honra também mudam para aqueles que carregam um espírito discernível de Cristo neles. Estes são homens e mulheres mortais que são portadores do Espírito de Deus; aqueles que refletem Sua natureza e tornam o Senhor visível.

Quando Cristo é formado em nós, carregamos o mesmo espírito militante de resistência contra regimes opressivos.

Para o cego, essa foi uma batalha por sua dignidade.

Carregar a cruz exige um profundo espírito de perseverança, caminhar contra ventos contrários – focados em terminar justos e fiéis até o fim.

 

Hebreus 3

14 Porque não temos aqui cidade permanente, mas buscamos a futura. 15 Por ele, portanto, ofereçamos sacrifício de louvor a Deus continuamente, isto é, o fruto dos nossos lábios dando graças ao seu nome.

Façamos disso nosso hino e nosso propósito:

Fidelidade até o fim. Seremos herdeiros conjuntos de tudo o que pertence a Cristo.

Os princípios que aprendemos quando meninos e meninas influenciam a maioria das decisões que tomaríamos quando adultos.

Ouvimos nosso Presidente (Presidente da Africa do Sul) recentemente e nossos corações ficaram emocionados ao demonstrar grande compaixão pelo povo da África do Sul, fornecendo fundos para os desempregados e aumentando o financiamento para o bem-estar social. Ele não adquiriu esse espírito de livros ou de ouvir discursos motivacionais. Para aqueles que viveram durante os anos sombrios do apartheid, onde a maioria das pessoas foi mantida em estado de cegueira, ele era parte integrante da luta contra um regime opressivo.

Este é o ponto… nunca perdemos os valores que aprendemos crescendo; resistiremos com todo o nosso poder a qualquer forma de opressão do regime religioso; recusamos ser intimidados por prisão, espancamentos ou uma variedade de ameaças veladas. Esta é uma batalha pelos nossos valores, doutrina e dignidade como homens e mulheres livres que redimiram e libertaram por Cristo Jesus, o Filho de Deus.

 

Declaramos como o cego …

 “Se é pecador ou não, eu não sei; uma coisa eu sei, que, havendo eu sido cego, agora vejo.”

 

Confesse o Senhor, e Ele nos confessará!

Saulo estava aspirando ameaças assassinas contra os discípulos do Senhor. Ele havia cometido alguns dos crimes mais hediondos e atrozes contra os discípulos do Senhor.

A abundância de compaixão no repositório de Jesus fez com que ele ficasse cego por apenas três dias.

É melhor cair nas mãos do Senhor.

Let us examine the demands relating to our devotion to the Lord our God. Let us look at both the covenants, the covenant on Mount Sinai and the New Covenant that all believers have with the Lord. The covenant that God made with His people on Mount Sinai was made AFTER HE demonstrated His Power and Might and His Divine ability to deliver His people. God demonstrated to His people who were short on faith, who He really is. Periodic violations of this covenant, especially after God delivered them, saw the people of God descend into a state of anarchy, chaos and lawlessness….

Exodus 20:1 And God spoke all these words, saying: 2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

God would introduce Himself upfront in case His people become forgetful. He presents Himself as the Deliverer of His people.

Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Now let us examine the New Covenant where JESUS reveals the first and great commandment.J esus, the Messiah would appear thousands of years later and declare ………

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, declared boldly to the Sanhedrin where he presented Jesus as the Lord of our salvation

Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

TOTAL AND ABSOLUTE DEVOTION TO THE LORD, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, IS THE DEMAND OF BOTH THESE COVENANTS – GOD HAS AN ABHORRENCE FOR IDOLATRY (idolatry is anything that has become a major distraction in our lives that prevents us from complying to the demands of our covenant with the Lord) Paul declares that we are the temples of the Living God and that there could be no agreement between the Temple and idols.

With this as a background, let us examine one of the prophetic utterances of Jeremiah concerning the people of God…..

Jeremiah 13:12 “Therefore you shall speak to them this word: ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel: “Every bottle shall be filled with wine.” And they will say to you, ‘Do we not certainly know that every bottle will be filled with wine?’ 13 “Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness! 14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says the LORD. “I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them.” 15 Hear and give ear: Do not be proud, For the LORD has spoken.

(God gives His people an opportunity to change their idolatrous ways)

Jeremiah 31:16 Give glory to the LORD your God Before He causes darkness, And before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, And while you are looking for light,He turns it into the shadow of death and makes it dense darkness. 17 But if you will not hear it My soul will weep in secret for your pride; My eyes will weep bitterly And run down with tears, Because the LORD’s flock has been taken captive.

Many believers have no idea what they have been drinking. The people of God thought that the imagery of bottles filled with wine was perhaps a prophecy of a good harvest, or perhaps a season of great joy. They replied very sarcastically: “Do we not certainly know that every bottle will be filled with wine?’’This is a manifestation of pride and rebellion when we choose to despise the Word of God because of its simplicity. The state of the apostasy of the people of God could not discern the language of the man of God. They said “Don’t you think we know that?” The simplicity of language is often despised by the ear of the religious or the academic, and they are unable to discern the things that the Spirit of the Lord is saying.

The Lord is not talking about NEW WINE

This bottle of red liquid is not what we think it is…..

The next line brings greater clarity.

Jeremiah 31: 13 “Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness!

The Lord is referring to the people as the vessels that the Lord will fill. It will fill the Kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem – this is where the Temple is. The people will be filled with a type of substance that will cause an intoxication that has not been seen before. He will not fill it with wine, He will fill it with a uniquely formulated cocktail that represents His indignation, wrath and great displeasure that has been fermenting over a period of time concerning His people.

THESE ARE THE AFTER EFFECTS

Jeremiah 31:14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says the LORD. “I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them.”15 Hear and give ear: Do not be proud, For the LORD has spoken.

When the people of God are constantly hurting each other, this includes strife and contention between fathers and sons, we know that we have been filled with the wine of the Lord’s indignation. The Word says that we will dash one another in a state of drunkenness. Let us study the Hebrew word for “dash”

nāp̱aṣ: To shatter, to break, to smash. It describes the action of shattering or breaking something: pitchers (Judg. 7:19; Jer. 22:28; 48:12); ashlar stones crushed, pulverized into powder (Isa. 27:9) …. (Extracted from CWSB Dictionary)

God is on a warpath because He has observed the idolatry of the people of God. God is demanding His people to hear and not become proud.

THE GRACE AND MERCY OF GOD PROVIDES AN ESCAPE FOR HIS PEOPLE

God gives His people an opportunity to change their idolatrous ways

Jeremiah 31: 16 Give glory to the LORD your God BEFORE He causes darkness,A nd BEFORE your feet stumble On the dark mountains, And while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death And makes it dense darkness. 17 But if you will not hear it My soul will weep in secret for your pride; My eyes will weep bitterly And run down with tears, Because the LORD’s flock has been taken captive.

The operative word here is BEFORE He causes darkness, Before Your feet stumble, Before He turns our environment into a shadow of death

IF WE DO NOT HEAR IT…….. LISTEN, THE LORD’S FLOCK WILL BE TAKEN CAPTIVE.

The captivity of God’s people was no random decision by the Lord. God has been warning His people through His prophets, but they would not turn.

Thousands of years later we find the Lord Jesus Christ carrying His own cup of suffering – for the salvation and redemption of humanity. His death on the Cross broke the curse over our lives and redeemed us from a state of sinfulness. Drinking from His cup of suffering He neutralized the indignation and wrath of God concerning His people. He laid down His own life as a ransom for millions of sinners. He would invite us to drink living water that He dispenses, that would cause us to end our thirst. In fact this water will become in us a fountain of water springing up into eternal life. In spite of this selfless act of the Father’s love for this sinful world and its people, many rejected the offer of salvation.

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth;He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

The same prophet Jeremiah prophesied these days …….

Jeremiah 31:31 “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”

TRULY, THE BEST WINE WAS SAVED FOR THE LAST

Vamos examinar as exigências relativas à nossa devoção ao Senhor nosso Deus. Vejamos as alianças, a aliança no Monte Sinai e a Nova Aliança que todos os cristãos temos com o Senhor. A aliança que Deus fez com Seu povo no Monte Sinai foi feita APÓS ELE demonstrar Seu Poder e Força e Sua Divina capacidade de libertar Seu povo. Deus demonstrou ao Seu povo que tinha pouca fé, quem Ele realmente é. Violações periódicas dessa aliança, especialmente depois que Deus as entregou, fizeram o povo de Deus descer a um estado de anarquia, caos e ilegalidade …

Êxodo 20: 1 E Deus falou todas estas palavras, dizendo: 2 “Eu sou o SENHOR, teu Deus, que te tirei da terra do Egito, da casa da servidão.

Deus se apresentaria de antemão caso seu povo se esquecesse. Ele se apresenta como o libertador de seu povo.

Êxodo 20: 3 Não terás outros deuses diante de mim. 4 Não farás para ti nenhuma imagem esculpida, ou qualquer semelhança de alguma coisa que está em cima no céu, ou que está embaixo na terra, ou que está na água abaixo da terra. 5 Não te curvarás diante delas, nem as servirás; porque eu o SENHOR teu Deus, sou um Deus ciumento, que visito a iniquidade dos pais sobre os filhos até a terceira e quarta geração daqueles que me aborrecem, 6 e mostro misericórdia a milhares dos que me amam, e guardam os meus mandamentos.

Agora vamos examinar a Nova Aliança, onde JESUS revela o primeiro e grande mandamento. Jesus, o Messias apareceria milhares de anos depois e declararia …

Mateus 22:37 Jesus disse-lhe: ‘Amarás o SENHOR, teu Deus, de todo o coração, de toda a alma e de todo o pensamento’. 38 Este é o primeiro e grande mandamento 39 E o segundo é semelhante. : ‘Amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo.’ 40 Nestes dois mandamentos dependem toda a lei e os profetas. ”

Pedro, cheio do Espírito Santo, declarou ousadamente ao Sinédrio, onde apresentou Jesus como o Senhor da nossa salvação.

Atos 4:12 Nem há salvação em nenhum outro, pois não há outro nome no céu dado entre os homens pelo qual devemos ser salvos.

A DEVOÇÃO TOTAL E ABSOLUTA AO SENHOR, SEM EXCEÇÃO, É A DEMANDA DE AMBAS ALIANÇAS – DEUS TEM UMA REPUGNÂNCIA A IDOLATRIA (idolatria é qualquer coisa que se torna uma grande distração em nossas vidas que nos impede de cumprir as exigências de nossa aliança com o Senhor) Paulo declara que somos os templos do Deus Vivo e que não pode haver acordo entre o Templo e os ídolos.

Com isso como pano de fundo, vamos examinar uma das frases proféticas de Jeremias a respeito do povo de Deus …

Jeremias 13:12 Portanto tu lhes falarás esta palavra: Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel. Toda garrafa será preenchida com vinho. E eles te dirão: Não sabemos nós certamente que toda garrafa será preenchida com vinho? 13 Então tu lhes dirás: Assim diz o SENHOR. Eis que eu encherei de embriaguez a todos os habitantes desta terra, mesmo os reis que se assentam sobre o trono de Davi, e os sacerdotes, e os profetas, e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém. 14 E eu os arremessarei violentamente um contra o outro, até os pais e os filhos juntamente, diz o SENHOR, e não terei piedade, nem pouparei, nem terei misericórdia, porém os destruirei. 15 Escutai, e dai ouvido. Não sejais orgulhosos, pois o SENHOR falou.

(Deus dá ao Seu povo a oportunidade de mudar seus caminhos de idolatria)

Jeremias 31:16 Dai glória ao SENHOR vosso Deus, antes que venha escuridão, e antes de vossos pés tropeçarem sobre os montes escuros, e antes que ao procurar por luz, ele a transforme em sombra de morte, e a torne em densa escuridão. 17 Porém se vós não ouvirdes isto, minha alma irá chorar em esconderijos por causa do vosso orgulho, e meu olho chorará dolorosamente, e se desfará em lágrimas, porque o rebanho do SENHOR foi levado cativo.

Muitos crentes não têm ideia do que estão bebendo. O povo de Deus pensava que as imagens de garrafas cheias de vinho talvez fossem uma profecia de uma boa colheita, ou talvez uma estação de grande alegria. Eles responderam com sarcasmo: “Não sabemos nós certamente que toda garrafa será preenchida com vinho?” Essa é uma manifestação de orgulho e rebelião quando escolhemos desprezar a Palavra de Deus por causa de sua simplicidade. O estado da apostasia do povo de Deus não podia discernir a linguagem do homem de Deus. Eles disseram: “Você não acha que sabemos disso?” A simplicidade da linguagem é frequentemente desprezada pelos ouvidos dos religiosos ou acadêmicos, e eles são incapazes de discernir as coisas que o Espírito do Senhor está dizendo.

O Senhor não está falando sobre NOVO VINHO

Esta garrafa de líquido vermelho não é o que pensamos que é …

A próxima linha traz maior clareza.

Jeremias 31: 13 Então tu lhes dirás: Assim diz o SENHOR. Eis que eu encherei de embriaguez a todos os habitantes desta terra, mesmo os reis que se assentam sobre o trono de Davi, e os sacerdotes, e os profetas, e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém.

O Senhor está se referindo ao povo como os vasos que o Senhor preencherá. Encherá os reis que se sentam no trono de Davi, os sacerdotes, profetas e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém – é aqui que fica o templo. As pessoas serão preenchidas com um tipo de substância que causará uma intoxicação nunca vista antes. Ele não o encherá de vinho, ele o encherá com um coquetel formulado de forma única que representa Sua indignação, ira e grande desagrado que vem fermentando ao longo de um período de tempo com relação ao Seu povo.

ESTES SÃO OS EFEITOS POSTERIORES

Jeremias 31:14 E eu os arremessarei violentamente um contra o outro, até os pais e os filhos juntamente, diz o SENHOR, e não terei piedade, nem pouparei, nem terei misericórdia, porém os destruirei.

Quando o povo de Deus se machuca constantemente, isso inclui contenda e disputa entre pais e filhos, sabemos que fomos cheios do vinho da indignação do Senhor. A Palavra diz que nos arremessaremos em um estado de embriaguez. Vamos estudar a palavra hebraica para “colidir”

nāp̱aṣ: Destruir, quebrar, esmagar. Ele descreve a ação de quebrar ou destruir algo: jarros (Juízes 7:19; Jeremias 22:28; 48:12); pedras de silhar esmagadas, pulverizadas em pó (Isaías 27: 9)…. (Extraído do dicionário CWSB)

Deus está em pé de guerra porque observou a idolatria do povo de Deus. Deus está exigindo que Seu povo ouça e não se orgulhe.

A GRAÇA E A MISERICÓRDIA DE DEUS PROPORCIONAM UM ESCAPE PARA O SEU POVO

Deus dá ao Seu povo a oportunidade de mudar seus caminhos idólatras

A palavra operativa aqui é ANTES que Ele cause escuridão, Antes que seus pés tropecem Antes que Ele transforme nosso ambiente em uma sombra da morte.

SE NÃO O OUVIRMOS…… OUÇAM, O REBANHO DO SENHOR SERÁ CATIVO.

O cativeiro do povo de Deus não foi uma decisão aleatória do Senhor. Deus tem avisado Seu povo através de Seus profetas, mas eles não se voltaram.

Milhares de anos depois, encontramos o Senhor Jesus Cristo carregando seu próprio cálice de sofrimento – para a salvação e redenção da humanidade. Sua morte na cruz quebrou a maldição sobre nossas vidas e nos redimiu de um estado de pecaminosidade. Bebendo do seu cálice de sofrimento, ele neutralizou a indignação e a ira de Deus em relação ao Seu povo. Ele deu a própria vida como resgate por milhões de pecadores. Ele nos convidava a beber água viva que Ele dispensa, que nos faria acabar com a nossa sede. De fato, esta água se tornará em nós uma fonte de água que salta para a vida eterna. Ele foi desprezado e nós o tivemos por nada. 4 Certamente ele tem carregado nossas tristezas e levado nossas dores. Contudo, nós o consideramos atingido, ferido de Deus e afligido. 5 Porém, ele foi ferido por nossas transgressões, ele foi esmagado por nossas iniquidades. O castigo de nossa paz estava sobre ele e pelos açoites que o feriram nós somos curados. 6 Todos nós como ovelhas temos nos desviado. Nós temos nos afastado, cada um para seu próprio caminho, e o SENHOR tem posto sobre ele a iniquidade de todos nós. 7 Ele foi oprimido e ele foi afligido, contudo, ele não abriu a sua boca. Ele é trazido como um cordeiro para o matadouro, e como uma ovelha muda perante os seus tosquiadores está, assim, ele não abriu sua boca.

O mesmo profeta Jeremias profetizou nos dias de hoje.

Jeremias 31:31 Eis que dias vêm, diz o SENHOR, em que eu farei um novo pacto com a casa de Israel, e com a casa de Judá. 32 Não conforme o pacto que eu fiz com os seus pais no dia em que eu os tomei pela mão para os tirar da terra do Egito, porquanto eles quebraram meu pacto, embora eu os tenha desposado, diz o SENHOR. 33 Porém este será o pacto que eu farei com a casa de Israel depois daqueles dias, diz o SENHOR: Eu colocarei minha lei no seu íntimo, e a escreverei nos seus corações, e serei o seu Deus, e eles serão meu povo. 34 E eles não ensinarão mais cada homem a seu próximo e cada homem a seu irmão, dizendo: Conhecei ao SENHOR; porque todos conhecerão a mim, desde o menor até o maior deles, diz o SENHOR, pois eu perdoarei a sua iniquidade, e não me lembrarei mais do seu pecado.

In the days of the Passover God taught Pharaoh an unforgettable lesson. The hardness of his heart finally succumbed to an unshakeable reality. Pharaoh was unable to discern that his resistance against the representatives of God, Moses and his brother Aaron, was actually against God Himself.

There is a high human cost to our salvation, redemption and our dominion.

JESUS SHARES THE SACRIFICIAL COST OF THE SALVATION, REDEMPTION AND LIBERATION OF HUMANITY

Jesus presented a transformative gospel; any voice for change or reform is going to experience serious pushback by the rulers of that age. Traditionally we have focused on the sufferings of Jesus and His crucifixion like we should – however, there is a demand for believers to also drink of the cup.

Luke 9:21 And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”

JESUS SENT A MESSAGE TO THE GREEKS WHO DESIRED TO SEE HIM

John 12:23 But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

JESUS EXPLAINED TO THE SONS OF ZEBEDEE OF THE COST OF PURSUING HIM

Matthew 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.”

JESUS PRAYED TO THE FATHER, CONCERNING THE BURDEN OF CARRYING THE CUP

Matthew 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

There are too many examples of people dying for a cause that they believe in. We know our own history in South Africa; that during the days of apartheid, thousands of lives were lost in the struggle for liberation from a system of severe oppression. There are many cases like this throughout the world. Our freedom for equal rights as citizens of this country came at a high human cost. It was a battle for our dignity.

The experience of suffering is not limited to our political liberation, it also extends to our spiritual journey of faith in Christ. Before the exodus from Egypt the Lord passed over Egypt and killed the first born of all the Egyptians, including the livestock. The scriptures declare that “there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead”

Concerning the Passover, this is the beginning of the trail of blood and sacrifice that would find its fulfillment in Christ…. There is a real human cost for the freedom and emancipation of God’s people, so that they could go into the wilderness to offer sacrifices and worship their God

The Lord commanded His people to sacrifice one year old lambs – apply the blood to the doorposts that would confer Divine immunity upon the people of God. Hundreds of thousands of lambs must have been sacrificed. One can imagine the sound of their bleating as they were slaughtered. The innocent blood of these lambs at the prime of their lives flowed in obedience to the instructions of God so that they would be emancipated from abuse and slavery. The blood of these innocent, one year old lambs, babies without spot or blemish, were applied upon the door frames of the houses of the people of God.

JESUS THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB …….

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming towards him, and he declared …..

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

From before Jesus was born, He was constantly being harassed, persecuted and closely scrutinized for one false step. Whilst Mary was pregnant with Jesus, we see God protect His Son the Saviour and Messiah. God will always protect His sons.

Matthew 2:13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”14 When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt,

After the wise men visited Jesus, they were divinely warned in a dream not to return to Herod. God continues to protect the life of His Son

Matthew 2:12 Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.

Can you imagine being persecuted and hunted down from before you were born; Jesus had a death sentence hanging over his head whilst he was still in the womb.

THOUSANDS OF BABIES 2 YEARS AND UNDER WERE SLAIN IN A PURGE BY HEROD AND HIS MEN

Thousands of first born lost their lives because the wise men refused to disclose the place where Jesus was. The blood trail continues. Mothers refused to be comforted. Jeremiah prophesied this :

Jeremiah 31:15 Thus says the Lord: “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more.”

The blood trail continues. The wise men obeyed the Divine warning in their dream, but thousands of babies paid the ultimate price, mothers seeing the innocent blood of their children flow. God saw this sacrifice. Here was a perfect example of the suffering of the innocent. The life of baby Jesus was protected by the wise men at a very high human cost. The wife of Pilate had a troubling dream ……

Matthew 27:19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.”

However, the chief priests and the elders mobilized the multitude to continue the flow of innocent blood ….

Matthew 27:24 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.” 25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”

This is the power of hate and persecution. The blood trail continues.. This blood thirsty mob bayed for innocent blood. The blood trail continues.

Mateus 20:22 Mas Jesus respondendo disse: Não sabeis o que pedis. Podeis vós beber o cálice que eu hei de beber, e ser batizados com o batismo com que eu sou batizado? Dizem-lhe eles: Nós podemos.

JESUS OROU AO PAI, A RESPEITO DO FARDO DE CARREGAR O CÁLICE

Mateus 26:39 E ele indo um pouco mais adiante, prostrou-se sobre a sua face, orando e dizendo: Ó meu Pai, se é possível, passe de mim este cálice; todavia, não seja como eu quero, mas como tu queres.

Existem muitos exemplos de pessoas morrendo por uma causa em que acreditam. Conhecemos nossa própria história na África do Sul; que durante os dias do apartheid, milhares de vidas foram perdidas na luta pela libertação de um sistema de severa opressão. Existem muitos casos como esse em todo o mundo. Nossa liberdade por direitos iguais como cidadãos deste país teve um alto custo humano. Foi uma batalha pela nossa dignidade.

A experiência do sofrimento não se limita à nossa libertação política, mas também se estende à nossa jornada espiritual de fé em Cristo. Antes do êxodo do Egito, o Senhor passou pelo Egito e matou os primogênitos de todos os egípcios, incluindo o gado. As escrituras declaram que “houve um grande clamor no Egito, pois não havia uma casa onde não houvesse um morto”.

Com relação à Páscoa, este é o começo da trilha de sangue e sacrifício que encontraria sua realização em Cristo. Existe um custo humano real para a liberdade e emancipação do povo de Deus, para que eles pudessem ir ao deserto para oferecer sacrifícios e adorar a Deus.

O Senhor ordenou que Seu povo sacrificasse cordeiros de um ano de idade – aplique o sangue nos umbrais das portas que conferissem imunidade divina ao povo de Deus. Centenas de milhares de cordeiros devem ter sido sacrificados. Pode-se imaginar o som de seus balidos quando foram abatidos. O sangue inocente desses cordeiros no auge de suas vidas fluiu em obediência às instruções de Deus, para que fossem emancipados do abuso e da escravidão. O sangue desses inocentes cordeiros de um ano, bebês sem mancha ou defeito, foi aplicado nas molduras das portas das casas do povo de Deus.

JESUS O CORDEIRO SACRIFICIAL …….

João Batista viu Jesus vindo em sua direção e declarou …

João 1:29 No dia seguinte, João vê Jesus vindo até ele, e diz: Eis o Cordeiro de Deus, que carrega o pecado do mundo.

Antes de Jesus nascer, ele estava sendo constantemente perseguido, perseguido e minuciosamente examinado por um passo em falso. Enquanto Maria estava grávida de Jesus, vemos Deus proteger Seu Filho, o Salvador e o Messias. Deus sempre protegerá Seus filhos.

Jeremias 31:15 Assim diz o SENHOR: Uma voz foi ouvida em Ramá, lamentação, e choro amargo. Raquel chorando pelos seus filhos, recusou ser confortada acerca de seus filhos, porque eles já não existem.

A trilha de sangue continua. Os sábios obedeceram ao aviso divino em seus sonhos, mas milhares de bebês pagaram o preço máximo, mães vendo o sangue inocente de seus filhos fluir. Deus viu esse sacrifício. Aqui estava um exemplo perfeito do sofrimento dos inocentes. A vida do bebê Jesus foi protegida pelos sábios a um custo humano muito alto. A esposa de Pilatos teve um sonho perturbador …

Mateus 27:19 E, estando ele assentado no tribunal, sua esposa mandou-lhe dizer: Não te envolvas na questão desse justo, porque eu muito sofri hoje em sonho por causa dele.

No entanto, os principais sacerdotes e os anciãos mobilizaram a multidão para continuar o fluxo de sangue inocente.

There are a multitude of voices that are being heard right now and the Apostle John brings some clarity to this matter :

1 John 4:2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

Jesus made Himself of no reputation, took the form of a bondservant, and came in the likeness of men. Although Jesus was both son of man and son of God on the earth, to the centurion and the multitude, the resurrection of Jesus clearly proved that He was truly the Son of God! Christ disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. If our confidence is in carnal weapons of warfare , Christ will disarm us and make us a public spectacle

The great expectation of creation – is the revealing of sons of God The gravitation of the people of the earth to us will take place when they see the “spirit of the overcomer, the spirit of the Resurrected one dwelling in the sons of men; where no challenge will defeat us; where sickness and the grave does not intimidate us” because we have been raised with Him. This is the confidence and zeal that Paul wrote about in his letter to the believers in Corinth ……

1 Corinthians 15:13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. 15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!

Our ability to rise from critical challenges is an advertisement and proclamation of the death and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The believer’s confidence and assurance is in the fact that Christ rose from the dead. If he did not, then it means that we are still in our sinful state. But we thank God that Jesus fulfilled every prophecy about Him – this morning all those who live, move and have our being in Him walk free from all condemnation and judgement. Remember that the stone was rolled away……The stone is a symbol of judgement and condemnation

However this morning I would like to focus on the assignment of Jesus on the earth. Let us examine Jesus’ final moments at the Cross……….

The gospel of John declares

“IT IS FINISHED”

Matthew 27:50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, 52 and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. 54 So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

The last words that Jesus would utter in the gospel of John would be “It is finished”

Jesus is the gold standard for Sonship – He is the Perfect Son of God. Our value and effectiveness in the Kingdom is determined by our performance against our gold standard who is Christ Himself.

There can be no other standard of measurement in the Body of Christ. We must be mindful that we were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from our aimless conduct received by tradition from our fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

When we study His ministry on earth, it clearly reveals our own doubts, causing us to declare like the centurion…….

“Truly, this was the Son of God”

As we seek to grow in our Sonship, there are clear principles here that establish the standard. Jesus declared that He had completed His assignment. He atoned for our sins; Everything that was expected of Him and prophesied about Him, He had done

Although Jesus Christ the Son of God is equal with God the Father….. He deferred and deflected the Glory and the Honor to His Father. These are lessons that we can all learn from. He voluntarily chose to be seen as a son of man, like a bondservant, rather than son of God. He was obedient to the point of death – whatever doubts he may have had, He reserved them for the loneliness of Gethsemane. As sons of God , we must pray to the Father that we can evolve in our sonship to demonstrate the class of Jesus. Exaltation of the son follows this level of humility and suffering.

Let us declare like Jesus “ It is finished”

Colossians 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Jesus revealed the nature and the attributes of His Father to His disciples. These disciples are a gift from the Father. We note that Jesus places emphasis on the disciples keeping the Word. He is informing His Father that the disciples have matured into doers of the Word.

The disciples of Jesus are fully knowledgeable about this. The power of the resurrection is released when our sonship evolves to this place. We must also witness these things….. those of us who have “fallen asleep” in our calling or any other area in our lives would become animated by the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead.

Este é um método usado no mundo secular em relação à eficácia de um funcionário.

Jesus é o padrão ouro para a filiação – Ele é o Filho Perfeito de Deus. Nosso valor e eficácia no Reino são determinados por nosso desempenho em relação ao nosso padrão ouro, que é o próprio Cristo.

Não pode haver outro padrão de medida no Corpo de Cristo. Devemos ter consciência de que não fomos redimidos com coisas corruptíveis, como prata ou ouro, de nossa conduta sem objetivo recebida pela tradição de nossos pais, mas com o precioso sangue de Cristo, como de um cordeiro sem defeito e sem mancha.

Quando estudamos Seu ministério na Terra, isso revela claramente nossas próprias dúvidas, fazendo-nos declarar como o centurião.

When we examine, certain periods in time, the relationship between God and His people in the Old Testament , it can only be described as being fractious ……

When I thought of a word that would best describe this relationship – the word “fractious” came to mind. This word is often used to describe an animal that refuses to be harnessed. The harness that keeps us on track, is God and His Word. We ought to embrace the harness of the Word, with a sense of peace and assurance. God is not a man that He would lie.

Isaiah 55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth – it will not return to me unfulfilled; but it will accomplish what I intend, and cause to succeed what I sent it to do.”

If we study the history of God and His people, there were many times in their journey that they broke free from the harness of the Word of God. When we refuse to be harnessed to the Word of God, we become vulnerable to the idolatrous practices of a heathen, worldly culture. The Biblical nation of Israel periodically rebelled against God and their hearts turned to idolatry. When we do this, we make a covenant keeping God our enemy. When we break free from the harness which is God and His Word, we are vulnerable to the philosophy and doctrines of this world

This is the lamentation of God over His beloved people …….. God is implying “I tried so many ways to get your attention, but you refused to return to Me.” Beloved, we the people of God, need to return to Him. This purpose of this plague is to cause God’s people to return to God

God sent His people so many signs ……Israel was notorious in having a flirtatious relationship with God. God spoke through His prophet Amos, saying:

Amos 4:6-13

6 “Also I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, And lack of bread in all your places; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

Famine did not break you – They did not know that God was the architect of the famine

7 “I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered. 8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

Drought did not break you……. We experienced severe drought in South Africa last year. God withheld the rain three months before harvest, the most critical time in the year – April. If rain did not fall in April, we can forget about the harvest. May, June and July – no rain falls in that region. Yet the nation did not return to the Lord. Instead they began murdering the prophets of the Lord

9 “I blasted you with blight and mildew. When your gardens increased, Your vineyards, Your fig trees, And your olive trees, The locust devoured them; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD. I released My army of locusts, like the Medianites, and they devoured the fruits of your labors –

I sent blight and mildew on your crops -deadly diseases that destroy the crops. All these catastrophes were under the instruction of God Himself. Yet you did not return to Me

10 “I sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt; Your young men I killed with a sword, Along with your captive horses; I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

I destroyed the young men – through a plague like the one I sent into Egypt. Young men – represent the strength of the nation. Yet you have not returned to Me

11 “I overthrew some of you, As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the LORD.

I rescued you from the fire. Yet you have not returned to Me

12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!” 13 For behold, He who forms mountains,And creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought is, And makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth— The LORD God of hosts is His name.

This is what happens when the people of God resist the harness of the Word of God. The state of Israel during the days of the prophet Amos; I will not turn away its punishment,

Amos 2:6 Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, Because they sell the righteous for silver, And the poor for a pair of sandals.

Righteousness is sold when it should be pursued and acquired

They pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor, And pervert the way of the humble. A man and his father go in to the same girl, To defile My holy name.

(spiritual fornication – violation of the father/son wineskin). The offspring that are produced in this relationship will not be able to identify their true father. This is the house of harlotry. We are being prepared as a bride that is adorned for her husband

Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Genesis 49:4

4 Unstable as water, you shall not excel, Because you went up to your father’s bed; Then you defiled it. He went up to my couch.

Amos reveals the spiritual condition of the people of God and their evil practices

Amos 4:1 Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, Who oppress the poor, Who crush the needy, Who say to your husbands, “Bring wine, let us drink!”. 2 The Lord God has sworn by His holiness: “Behold, the days shall come upon you When He will take you away with fishhooks, And your posterity with fishhooks. 3 You will go out through broken walls, Each one straight ahead of her, And you will be cast into Harmon,” Says the Lord. 4 “Come to Bethel and transgress, At Gilgal multiply transgression;Bring your sacrifices every morning, Your tithes every three days. 5 Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, Proclaim and announce the freewill offerings; For this you love, You children of Israel!” Says the Lord God.

GOD IS DEALING WITH A PEOPLE WHO HAVE BECOME COMPLACENT IN THEIR APOSTASY

Or “cows of Bashan” ; a country beyond Jordan, inhabited by the tribes of Gad and Reuben, and the half tribe of Manasseh, very fruitful of pasturage, and where abundance of fat cattle were brought up; to whom persons of distinction, and of the first rank, are here compared.

Israel operating from a platform of oppression and extortion. Ivory houses. Guilty of oppressing and extorting of the poor

Come to Bethel and transgress. Bethel was one of the places where the calves were placed and worshipped; a place of idolatry.

Jesus also refers to the harness ………..

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

This yoke, or the harness, is His Word, His doctrine, His teachings. His words that would produce rest. The rest we need is for our souls.. We must the harness – Learn from Him. We must learn from His doctrine, His teachings, His parables. Jesus marveled when the centurion disclosed the accounting protocols of the Roman military system……. this level of accountability and obedience was not on view in all of Israel. Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith, marveled at the Roman system of accountability …..

Obedience can only be measured against an instruction. The mother of Mary told the servants at the wedding: “Whatever He says to you, do it.” So obedience is measured by our ability to comply with an instruction. In the absence of instructions, there is no opportunity for any form of obedience to manifest itself. There can be no rebellion in the absence of instructions

The apostle Paul himself declared :

Romans 4:15 where there is no law there is no transgression

If instructions from the Word of God, which is our harness , are not communicated, the oxen will plough wherever they desire, consequently destroying the whole field.

6 Por isso também vos dei limpeza de dentes em todas as vossas cidades, e falta de pão em todos os vossos lugares; contudo não vos retornastes a mim, diz o SENHOR. 7 E também retive de vós a chuva, quando ainda faltavam três meses para a ceifa; e fiz que chovesse sobre uma cidade, e que não chovesse sobre outra cidade; sobre um campo choveu, mas o outro, sobre a qual não choveu, secou-se. 8 Então duas ou três cidades andaram errantes, indo a outra cidade para beberem água, mas não se saciaram; contudo não vos retornastes a mim, diz o SENHOR. 9 Feri-vos com queimadura e ferrugem; quando vossas hortas e vinhas, e vossas figueiras cresceram, foram devoradas pela lagarta; contudo não vos retornastes a mim, diz o SENHOR. 10 Eu enviei a peste entre vós, à maneira do Egito; os vossos jovens matei à espada, e levei os vossos cavalos; e fiz subir às vossas narinas o mau cheiro dos vossos campos; contudo não vos retornastes a mim, diz o SENHOR. 11 Derrubei alguns dentre vós, como Deus derrubou a Sodoma e Gomorra, e vós fostes como um tição arrebatado do incêndio; contudo não vos retornastes a mim, diz o SENHOR. 12 Portanto, assim te farei, ó Israel; e porque isso te farei, prepara-te para encontrares com o teu Deus, ó Israel. 13 Pois eis aqui o que forma os montes, e cria o vento, e declara ao homem qual seja o seu pensamento, o que faz da manhã trevas, e pisa sobre os lugares altos da terra; o SENHOR, o Deus dos Exércitos, é o seu nome.

É o que acontece quando o povo de Deus resiste ao arreio da Palavra de Deus. O estado de Israel durante os dias do profeta Amós; Eu não rejeitarei seu castigo,

Amós 2: 6 Assim diz o SENHOR: Por três transgressões de Israel, e por quatro, não retirarei o seu castigo, pois eles venderam o justo por prata, e o pobre por um par de sandálias;

A justiça é vendida, quando deve ser perseguida e adquirida

Eles suspiram pelo pó da terra que está sobre a cabeça dos pobres, e pervertem o caminho dos humildes. Um homem e seu pai se deitam com a mesma mulher, para profanar o Meu santo nome.

(fornicação espiritual – violação do odre do pai / filho). Os filhos que são produzidos nesse relacionamento não serão capazes de identificar seu verdadeiro pai. Esta é a casa da prostituição. Estamos sendo preparados como uma noiva que é adornada para o marido.

Apocalipse 21: 1 E eu vi um novo céu, e uma nova terra; porque o primeiro céu e a primeira terra haviam passado, e não havia mais mar. 2 E eu, João, vi a santa cidade, a nova Jerusalém, descendo do céu, da parte de Deus, preparada como uma noiva adornada para o seu marido.

Gênesis 49: 4

4 Instável como a água, não serás superior, porquanto subiste à cama de teu pai, e então a contaminaste. Ele subiu à minha cama.

Amós revela a condição espiritual do povo de Deus e suas más práticas.

Amós 4: 1 Ouvi esta palavra, vós, vacas de Basã, que estais no monte de Samaria, que oprimis aos pobres, que esmagais os necessitados, que dizeis a vossos senhores: trazei, e bebamos. 2 O Senhor DEUS jurou, pela sua santidade, que dias estão para vir sobre vós, em que vos levarão com ganchos e a vossos descendentes com anzóis. 3 E saireis pelas brechas, cada qual em frente de si, e sereis lançadas no palácio, diz o SENHOR. 4 Vinde a Betel, e transgredi; a Gilgal, e multiplicai as transgressões; e trazei os vossos sacrifícios a cada manhã, e os vossos dízimos a cada três anos; 5 e oferecei um sacrifício de ação de graças do que é levedado; proclamai e publicai as ofertas voluntárias, porque disso gostais, ó filhos de Israel, diz o Senhor DEUS.

DEUS ESTÁ LIDANDO COM PESSOAS QUE SE TORNARAM COMPLACENTES EM SUA APOSTASIA

Gatos gordos de Samaria – estilos de vida elevados e opulentos dos ricos. Ou “vacas de Basã”; um país além do Jordão, habitado pelas tribos de Gade e Rúben, e pela meia tribo de Manassés, muito frutífera de pastagens, e onde havia abundância de gado gordo; a quem pessoas de distinção e de primeiro escalão são aqui comparadas.

Israel operando a partir de uma plataforma de opressão e extorsão. Casas de marfim. Culpado de oprimir e extorquir os pobres.

Vem a Betel e transgride. Betel foi um dos lugares onde os bezerros foram colocados e adorados; um lugar de idolatria.

Jesus também se refere ao arreio…

Mateus 11:29 Tomai sobre vós o meu jugo, e aprendei de mim, pois eu sou manso e humilde de coração; e encontrareis descanso para as vossas almas.

Este jugo, ou arreio, é a Sua Palavra, a sua doutrina, os seus ensinamentos. Suas palavras que produziriam descanso. O resto que precisamos é para nossas almas. Precisamos do arreio – Aprenda com Ele. Devemos aprender com Sua doutrina, Seus ensinamentos, Suas parábolas. Jesus ficou maravilhado quando o centurião divulgou os protocolos detalhistas do sistema militar romano. Esse nível de responsabilidade e obediência não estava à vista em todo o Israel. A obediência só pode ser medida contra uma instrução. Maria disse aos servos no casamento: “Tudo o que ele disser para você, faça.” Portanto, a obediência é medida pela nossa capacidade de cumprir uma instrução. Na ausência de instruções, não há oportunidade para nenhuma forma de obediência se manifestar. Não pode haver rebelião na ausência de instruções.

O próprio apóstolo Paulo declarou:

Romanos 4:15 Porque a lei opera a ira; pois onde não há lei, não há transgressão.

Se as instruções da Palavra de Deus, que é o nosso arreio, não forem comunicadas, os bois irão arar para onde quiserem, destruindo consequentemente todo o campo.

Revelation 3:1-3

1 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,

“These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: ‘I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

We are living in a time that we have not been trained for.

Nations are struggling to contain the spread of this virus that has altered all our normal routines.

I honestly believe that the Lord wants the full attention of His people during this quarantine.

The reason God sent His people into quarantine in Egypt was because of their abominable practices before a Holy God

If we love the ways of Egypt so much, God will leave us there

Social distancing is not a new concept in the mind of God.

Psalms 1:1-2

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,

And in His law he meditates day and night.

2 Thessalonians 3:11-15

For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

There is only ONE thing for the people in exile to do

That is to look inside themselves – this is a time for personal introspection

A time to identify our spiritual violations and to set our minds and our hearts to restore our relationships with the Lord our God

It cannot be “business as usual”

There is no way, that God will sit by and do nothing, while His people engage in various abominations

There is only ONE response- repent and the Lord will restore

If the Lord does not restore, we have been worshipping a graven image

Our Living God will respond to the spirit of reformation working in our hearts.God honors His covenant with His people. The church in Sardis functioned by their reputation. Not by their love for God – God has reckoned them to be spiritually dead. The church in Sardis will be seriously affected by the restriction on gathering

They built their reputation on being “alive”. This meant that they had vibrant, high energy, praise and worship. They had the finest musicians and singers. They had a strong public appeal. They had a variety of programs. It was a busy, active ministry.

This is a Genesis 11 type of ministry – The Tower of Babel

Genesis 11: 4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”

This is a ministry that is obsessed with building a name for itself. The coronavirus will seriously affect the church in Sardis. This virus came like a thief in the night. So if you was someone who prioritised the gathering over personal consecration and relationship with God, then the current situation is going to cause you great anxiety.

The message to Sardis was – work on your relationship with God. Strengthen the things which remain. There are few names who have not defiled their garments. Walk in white with the Lord – He says we are worthy. Isn’t it amazing that the Lord is able to identify those, in the midst of an apostate environment, those who remain true to God.

Revelation 3:4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

The Sardis believer, is the one who is only activated for the church on a Sunday morning. This believer loves the excitement of the church program more than he loves God. He loves to dress up on a Sunday morning to go to a place. God is referring the leaders and believers in Sardis to the reality of this present day. That we are the Temple of God; that we do not need a special day to worship Him. His Spirit dwells in us, and among His people

Let us refocus, to create an environment within us where the spirit of Christ can grow in us.Where we seek to grow into maturity in the things of God, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. For this to happen, we do not need a physical place – we need the Word of God to teach us, the Spirit of God to lead us.

WE HAVE A COVENANT WITH GOD

Genesis 21:8-15

8 So the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned. 9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing. 10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely with Isaac.” 11 And the matter was very displeasing in Abraham’s sight because of his son. 12 But God said to Abraham, “Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called. 13 Yet I will also make a nation of the son of the bondwoman, because he is your seed.” 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away. Then she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba. 15 And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs.

GOD HEARD THE CRY OF THE SEED OF ABRAHAM

Genesis 21:16 Then she went and sat down across from him at a distance of about a bowshot; for she said to herself, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” So she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept. 17 And God heard the voice of the lad. Then the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Fear not, for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad and hold him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation.” 19 Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink. 20 So God was with the lad; and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21 He dwelt in the Wilderness of Paran; and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

THE BELIEVER IS THE SEED OF ABRAHAM

Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

A IGREJA EM SARDES

Apocalipse 3: 1-3

1 E ao anjo da igreja de Sardes escreve: 

Estas coisas diz aquele que tem os sete Espíritos de Deus, e as sete estrelas: Eu conheço as tuas obras, que tens um nome, de que vives, e estás morto. 2 Sê vigilante e fortalece as coisas que permanecem, que estão prontas para morrer; porque eu não achei as tuas obras perfeitas diante de Deus. 3 Lembra-te, portanto, do que tu tens recebido e ouvido, e guarda-o, e arrepende-te. Pois se tu não vigiares, eu virei a ti como um ladrão, e tu não saberás a que hora eu virei sobre ti.

Estamos vivendo um tempo para o qual não fomos treinados.

As nações estão lutando para conter a propagação deste vírus que alterou todas as nossas rotinas normais.

Sinceramente, acredito que o Senhor deseja toda a atenção do Seu povo durante esta quarentena.

A razão pela qual Deus colocou Seu povo em quarentena no Egito foi por causa de suas práticas abomináveis diante de um Deus Santo.

Se amamos tanto os caminhos do Egito, Deus nos deixará lá.

O distanciamento social não é um conceito novo na mente de Deus.

Salmos 1: 1-2

1 Abençoado é o homem que não anda no conselho do ímpio, nem fica no caminho dos pecadores, nem assenta na cadeira dos escarnecedores. 2 Mas o seu prazer está na lei do SENHOR, e na sua lei medita de dia e de noite.

2 Tessalonicenses 3: 11-15

11Porquanto ouvimos que há alguns entre vós que andam desordenadamente, não trabalhando, mas são intrometidos. 12 A esses tais, porém, mandamos e exortamos, por nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, trabalhando com sossego, comam o seu próprio pão. 13 Mas vós, irmãos, não vos canseis de fazer o bem. 14 Mas, se algum homem não obedecer à nossa palavra por esta carta, notai tal homem, e não vos mistureis com ele, para que se envergonhe. 15 Todavia, não o considere como inimigo, mas admoestai-o como um irmão.

Há apenas UMA coisa para as pessoas no exílio fazerem.

Isso é olhar para dentro de si – este é um momento de introspecção pessoal.

Um tempo para identificar nossas violações espirituais e definir nossas mentes e nossos corações para restaurar nossos relacionamentos com o Senhor nosso Deus.

Não pode ser “somente negócios”

Não há como Deus se sentar e não fazer nada, enquanto Seu povo se envolve em várias abominações.

Existe apenas UMA resposta – arrependa-se e o Senhor restaurará

Se o Senhor não restaurar, estaremos adorando uma imagem esculpida.

Nosso Deus vivo responderá ao espírito de reforma que opera em nossos corações. Deus honra Sua aliança com Seu povo. A igreja em Sardes funcionava por causa de sua reputação. Não pelo amor a Deus – Deus calculou que eles estavam espiritualmente mortos. A igreja em Sardes será seriamente afetada pela restrição de encontro.

Eles construíram sua reputação por estarem “vivos”. Isso significava que eles eram vibrantes, alta energia, louvor e adoração. Eles tinham os melhores músicos e cantores. Eles tiveram um forte apelo público. Eles tinham uma variedade de programas. Foi um ministério ocupado e ativo.

Este é um tipo de ministério de Gênesis 11 – A Torre de Babel

Gênesis 11: 4 E eles disseram: Vamos, edifiquemos para nós uma cidade e uma torre, cujo topo possa alcançar o céu. E façamos para nós um nome, para que não sejamos espalhados sobre a face de toda a terra.

Este é um ministério obcecado em construir um nome para si. O coronavírus afetará seriamente a igreja em Sardes. Este vírus veio como um ladrão na noite. Portanto, se você foi alguém que priorizou a reunião em detrimento da consagração pessoal e do relacionamento com Deus, a situação atual vai causar grande ansiedade.

A mensagem para Sardes era – trabalhe em seu relacionamento com Deus. Fortalecer as coisas que permanecem. Existem poucos nomes que não contaminaram suas vestes. Ande de branco com o Senhor – Ele diz que somos dignos. Não é surpreendente que o Senhor seja capaz de identificar aqueles que, no meio de um ambiente apóstata, permanecem fiéis a Deus.

Apocalipse 3: 4 Tens uns poucos nomes em Sardes que não contaminaram as suas vestes, e eles andarão comigo de branco, pois eles são dignos. 5 Aquele que vencer será vestido de vestes brancas, e não apagarei o seu nome do livro da vida, mas eu confessarei o seu nome diante do meu Pai, e diante de seus anjos.

O crente Sardes é aquele que é ativado apenas para a igreja no domingo de manhã. Esse crente ama mais a emoção do programa da igreja do que a Deus. Ele adora se vestir no domingo de manhã para ir a um lugar. Deus está referindo os líderes e crentes em Sardes à realidade dos dias atuais. Que nós somos o Templo de Deus; que não precisamos de um dia especial para adorá-lo. Seu Espírito habita em nós e entre Seu povo.

Vamos nos concentrar novamente, para criar um ambiente dentro de nós onde o espírito de Cristo possa crescer em nós. Onde procuramos crescer em maturidade nas coisas de Deus, à medida da estatura da plenitude de Cristo. Para que isso aconteça, não precisamos de um lugar físico – precisamos da Palavra de Deus para nos ensinar, o Espírito de Deus para nos guiar.

TEMOS UMA ALIANÇA COM DEUS

Gênesis 21: 8-15

8 E o menino cresceu, e foi desmamado. E Abraão fez um grande banquete no mesmo dia em que Isaque foi desmamado. 9 E Sara viu o filho de Agar, a egípcia, que ela dera a Abraão, zombando. 10 Por isso ela disse a Abraão: Lança fora esta serva e seu filho, porque o filho dessa serva não será herdeiro com meu filho, com Isaque. 11 E a coisa pareceu muito grave aos olhos de Abraão por causa de seu filho. 12 E Deus disse a Abraão: Não seja isso grave a tua vista por causa do rapaz, e por causa da tua serva. Em tudo que Sara disser, dá ouvidos à sua voz, porque em Isaque será chamada a tua semente. 13 E também do filho da serva eu farei uma nação, porque ele é tua semente. 14 E Abraão se levantou cedo de manhã, e tomou pão, e um odre de água, e os deu a Agar, pondo-os sobre o seu ombro, e ao filho, e a despediu. E ela partiu, e peregrinou pelo deserto de Berseba. 15 E a água do odre foi consumida, e ela colocou o filho debaixo de um dos arbustos.

DEUS OUVIU O GRITO DA SEMENTE DE ABRAÃO

Gênesis 21:16 E ela foi sentar-se em frente dele a boa distância, como a de um tiro de arco. Pois ela disse: Que eu não veja a morte da criança. E sentada em frente dele, levantou sua voz e chorou. 17 E Deus ouviu a voz do menino. E o anjo de Deus chamou Agar desde o céu, e lhe disse: Que te aflige, Agar? Não temas, pois Deus ouviu a voz do menino de onde ele está. 18 Ergue-te, levanta o menino nos teus braços, pois farei dele uma grande nação. 19 E Deus abriu-lhe os olhos, e ela viu um poço de água. E foi, e encheu o odre com água, e deu de beber ao menino. 20 E Deus estava com o menino, e ele cresceu e habitou no deserto, e se tornou um arqueiro. 21 E ele habitou no deserto de Parã; e sua mãe lhe tomou uma mulher da terra do Egito.

O CRISTÃO É A SEMENTE DE ABRAÃO

Gálatas 3: 26 Porque todos sois filhos de Deus pela fé em Cristo Jesus. 27 Todos vós que fostes batizados em Cristo, vos revestistes de Cristo. 28 Já não há judeu nem grego, não há também escravo nem livre, nem homem nem mulher, pois todos vós sois um em Cristo Jesus. 29 E se sois de Cristo, então sois a semente de Abraão, herdeiros segundo a promessa.
