This week we will continue to study the characteristics of humility

The next characteristic we will study is NON – RETALIATION (Meekness)

The Biblical Concept of Meekness.
Power under control: In the original Greek (praótes).

Key Concept: Meekness is not weakness, cowardice, or timidity.
Meekness is power under control. It is having the strength of a giant, but choosing to act with the gentleness and obedience of a child of God.
A virtue generated by the Holy Spirit that combines inner strength, gentleness, and total submission to God. It is listed in Galatians 5:22-23 and directly opposes the works of the flesh, such as outbursts of anger, discord, and pride.

The Metaphor of the Wild Horse
Imagine a wild horse, strong and fast. Loose, it can destroy fences and cause accidents.
But when it is tamed, it does not lose its strength; it simply puts all that energy under the command of the rider.
The horse is our will and our emotions.
The rider is the Holy Spirit.

Four Essential Points:

1. The Example of Jesus (The Model)
   Jesus had all the power in the universe, but chose to be humble.
   He knew when to be firm (as when he drove the money changers out of the temple).
   He knew when to be silent and forgive in the most difficult moment (on the cross).

Jesus emphasized this virtue as the only explicit character trait he attributed to himself.
Matthew 11:29 “Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart.”

2. Meekness in Daily Life (The Practice)
   In conversation: Respond calmly when someone yells at you (Proverbs 15:1).
   In correction: Help those who have erred without feeling superior (Galatians 6:1).
   In stress: Maintain patience in traffic or with problems at home.
   In dealing with oppressors: Endure insults and criticism without holding a grudge, leaving the final judgment in God’s hands.
3. The Benefits (The Result)
   Mental peace: Protects you against stress and chronic anger.
   Divine promise: Jesus promised that the meek will inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5).
   Testimony: Shows others that God governs your life.
4. Practical Examples from the Bible (Heroes of Meekness)
   Moses: When criticized by his own family, he did not take revenge; he prayed for their healing.
   After 40 years of God’s treatment in the desert, the Bible describes him in Numbers 12:3 as “a very meek man, more than all the men who were on the face of the earth.”

David: Had the chance to kill his pursuer (Saul) while he slept, but chose to leave the judgment in God’s hands.
(1 Samuel 24 and 26).

Abigail: Used sweet words and gifts to calm the fury of David and an army of 400 armed men.
Abigail acted with wisdom, gentleness, and swiftness (1 Samuel 25).

Stephen: Was the first martyr of the Christian church, unjustly imprisoned and judged for preaching the gospel (Acts 6 and 7).
While being stoned, he used his last strength to ask God to forgive his murderers. He knelt and cried out in a loud voice: “Lord, do not hold this sin against them” (Acts 7:60), dying in complete peace.

Practical Application for Life.
The next time someone offends you or a situation gets out of your control, don’t react impulsively.

Remember: He who retaliates is controlled by the circumstance; he who controls himself is controlled by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4:2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another

The word “meekness” is derived from the Greek word “praótēs̄́” (G4236) and means: meekness, mildness, forbearance, calmness towards God but wrath towards sin and evil as Jesus beating the money changers out of the Temple. It is the acceptance of God’s dealings with us considering them as good. A meek person does not get angry by people and circumstances. (CWSB Dictionary)

FEATURES OF MEEKNESS

Deaf and dumb in the face of attacks

Psalms 38:13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear; And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth. 14 Thus I am like a man who does not hear, And in whose mouth is no response. 15 For in You, O LORD, I hope; You will hear, O Lord my God.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.

Psalms 39:1 I said, “I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.” 2 I was mute with silence, I held my peace even from good; And my sorrow was stirred up. 3 My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue: 4 “LORD, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.

This is calmness in the face of antagonism. It is not weakness but the demonstration of strength in self control

Refusal to threaten 

1 Peter 2:23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

Refusal to quarrel/fight

Matthew 12:19 He will not quarrel nor cry out, Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.

Matthew 26:47 And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.” 49 Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. 51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? 54 How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”

David refused to quarrel with Shimei

2 Samuel 16:7 Also Shimei said thus when he cursed: “Come out! Come out! You bloodthirsty man, you rogue! 8 The LORD has brought upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. So now you are caught in your own evil, because you are a bloodthirsty man!” 9 Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please, let me go over and take off his head!” 10 But the king said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ Who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’ ” 11 And David said to Abishai and all his servants, “See how my son who came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the LORD has ordered him.

Abraham refused to quarrel 

Genesis 13:8 So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

Hannah did not quarrel with Eli for his callous, false accusation 

1 Samuel 1:13 Now Hannah spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk. 14 So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!” 15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. 16 Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now.”

The meek and lowly refuse to quarrel and strive when faced with a barrage of false accusations. They are confident in the “refuge and strength” of the Lord.

Withdrawal – to walk away 

Matthew 12:14 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him 15 But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. 16 Yet He warned them not to make Him known,

Refusal to defend oneself or complain

Mark 15:3 And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He answered nothing. 4 Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You!” 5 But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled.

1 Corinthians 4:9 For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! 11 To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. 12 And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; 13 being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

1 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.

Ability to suffer loss

1 Peter 2:19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

Meekness is a gentle disposition to wholly rely on God rather than your own strength in the face of injustice 

Here are some practical examples

• When you know that someone has gossiped about you, ignore it. Don’t phone the person for a meeting. Let God vindicate you
• When you are publicly maligned, don’t respond. Let God vindicate you
• Walk away from striving and argumentative brothers. Let them have the benefit
• Bless those who persecute you. Don’t malign them

When you do this, you are imitating Christ – you are learning from Him.

Meekness and non retaliatory behaviour is the expected code of conduct from His disciples. 

However, because we are yoked to Him and are seated with Him, our response to a culture of evil and wickedness must affect His disciples in the same way it affects Jesus.

Like we said in previous lessons, the Agape love of the Father (embodied in Christ) does not rejoice in iniquity; it rejoices in the truth. (1 Corinthians 13:6)

Note that His disciples remembered what was prophesied about Jesus when they witnessed the all consuming zeal in Jesus for His Father’s house. Jesus was not insane nor was He possessed by demons; He was consumed with zeal which is an intense, burning desire for honour and reverence for the house of His Father. 

John 2:16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” 17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”

Paul pleads with the believers in Corinth in the “meekness and gentleness of Christ” concerning spiritual warfare. Paul does not want his boldness and confidence in addressing some individuals to be misconstrued for operating and waging war “in the flesh”. The Apostle Paul’s preferred weapon in engaging in battle was the Word of the Lord which is sharper than any double edged sword and mighty in God.

2 Corinthians 10:1 Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. 2 But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Paul was truly an apostle of Christ. Paul declared “though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh”. The prophet Isaiah prophesied that the voice of  Jesus would not be heard quarrelling in the street

Matthew 12:14 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him. 15 But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all. 16 Yet He warned them not to make Him known, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 18 “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He will declare justice to the Gentiles. 19 He will not quarrel nor cry out, Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets.

Jesus is an advocate of non violent resistance

Matthew 26:50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. 51 And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. 52 But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?

Our faith in Him and His Word must subdue and restrain any carnal inclination. We must imitate His way.

Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

This non retaliatory, non violent resistance advocated by Jesus will challenge the conscience of hierarchical governing systems that are thirsting for blood and control. Jesus never advocated civil disobedience, lawlessness and anarchy. On the contrary Jesus encouraged the people to support governing structures; to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:21)

Jesus advocated submission to governing authorities without compromising our beliefs, values and the explicit commands in the Word of God. In John 19:11 Jesus simply informs Pilate about the supremacy of His Father concerning the life of His Son as well as the authority that His Father has Divinely invested in Pilate.

Jesus demonstrates His meekness in this  conversation with Pilate without diminishing His Divine authority or compromising the truth 

John 19:8 Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid, 9 and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 Then Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?” 11 Jesus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.” 12 From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”

This week we will continue to study the characteristics of humility. The third characteristic we will study is PENITENCE 

CHARACTERISTICS OF HUMILITY – PENITENCE Perspective by Apostle Mervin Mundie, Christian Outreach Ministries, Umzinto, KZN, South Africa

Penitence is the feeling of deep sorrow, regret, or contrition for sins, faults, or wrongdoings, often accompanied by a sincere desire to make amends. It signifies a formal, heartfelt remorse rather than just superficial sadness, frequently involving a willingness to turn away from past mistakes.

A SOBER MIND

The biblical definition of sober is to be in your right mind; to have a disciplined, sound mind. Being sober-minded is renewing your mind with the word of God for emotional and spiritual stability. That’s why it is important to read, study, and memorize the Bible.  
Each scripture you commit to memory is a deposit in your spiritual storehouse. At just the right moment, the Spirit will bring it to your remembrance to help you in your time of need.

Romans 12:I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God

GODLY SORROW Godly sorrow is a deep, heartfelt conviction of sin that leads to genuine repentance, transformation, and salvation. Unlike worldly sorrow, which focuses on self-pity or fear of consequences, godly sorrow focuses on how sin has grieved God and harmed others. It is a work of the Holy Spirit that results in turning away from sin.

II Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Even Jesus, with all His Annointing, Ability to do miracles and bringing redemption to mankind, knowing that Lazarus WILL be raised from the dead, also experienced Godly Sorrow.

John 11:35 Jesus wept.

TURNING AWAY FROM IDOLS Turning away from idols involves identifying anything—such as relationships, career, or self-image—that takes precedence over God and consciously replacing that devotion with a, “radical pursuit of Jesus”. This process, often called repentance, requires acknowledging these false comforts, surrendering them through prayer, and actively shifting focus back to God.

Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

THE PRODIGAL SON. The story of the Prodigal Son is the epitome of HUMILITY, repentance and moving forward toward the Mark of Perfection. Even in his Darkest moments he came to a realization that there is still hope in Repentance. Salvation came to him, only through total surrender. Not just in his mind and heart, but his entire being had to surrender. And he acted on it. Then only was salvation and redemption established.

Luke 15:20 And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

Penitence is the expression of remorse, sorrow and contrition for sins. A penitent attitude is a sign of humility. Features of a penitent attitude :

A SOBER MIND

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

The word “soberly” is derived from the Greek word sōphronéō (G4998) and means to be sober minded, to think and act soberly, discreetly, to use sound judgement and moderation, to be self disciplined. (CWSB Dictionary)

This is a mind that is devoid of egotism and narcissism

GODLY SORROW

2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Joel 2:12 “Now, therefore,” says the LORD, “Turn to Me with all your heart, With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.

God required repentance accompanied by mourning and grief of heart

2 Chronicles 34:27 because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before Me, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the LORD.

Josiah expressed Godly sorrow after hearing the Law. 

To despise one’s spiritual condition 

Job 42: 6 Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.”

Turning away from idols

Ezekiel 14:6 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.

Acknowledgment of sin

David acknowledged his sin

Psalms 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. 4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.

The prodigal….

Luke 15:18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you,

The Hebrew word for “penitence” or “repentance” is Teshuvah. It literally means a “return” or “turning back” to God, representing a proactive, actionable change in behavior rather than just a state of mind. It involves turning away from sin and returning to a right path.

Teshuvah meaning :

While English penitence often focuses on regret, Teshuvah implies returning to a state of righteousness. (Jewish Theological Seminary)

This  Hebrew word Teshuvah comes from the root “to return.”

To regret an offense (sin) is only the first step in the process of teshuvah

The Word teshuvah means “turning,”

It means a “turning” that would ultimately restore a person to the state of righteousness 

This modern society is pressurising victims to forgive their offenders for the sake of their own mental health and peace. 

Penitence is clearly a process During these days where we are partaking of the Holy Sacraments at the Table of the Lord, we must contemplate this process that causes us to return to the process of Penitence and Forgiveness. We are partaking of His Body and His Blood “in remembrance of Him” and His Finished work on the Cross. 

Here is the question that demands our response …… Should forgiveness be unconditional without the need for repentance?

How did we all receive forgiveness for our sins from our Lord,Saviour and Redeemer Christ Jesus ?

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

Why are believers in the Lord Christ Jesus bold and confident in their Redemption ?

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Luke 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

JOSEPH AND HIS BROTHERS ARRIVE IN EGYPT

22 years had passed from the time the brothers of Joseph sold him into slavery until he met his brothers again when they arrived in Egypt seeking grain. Joseph knew who they were.

Genesis 42:8 So Joseph recognized his brothers, but they did not recognize him.

One would have thought that considering the exalted position of Joseph as ruler in Egypt, considering that 22 years had passed, Joseph would have rushed to embrace his estranged family. Instant forgiveness – instant reconciliation. Remember that Joseph is a “type of Christ” in the Old Testament.

Jesus reinforces the perspective of Joseph. As many times as our brothers repent, forgive them as many times.

Luke 17:3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 4 And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”

Joseph wanted to ensure that the hearts of his brothers had truly reformed over the years. As much as every part of his being was inclined to rush to embrace his brothers, he did not allow his personal emotions or sentiments to cloud his judgement.

CARACTERÍSTICAS DA HUMILDADE – PENITÊNCIA

The brilliant test that reveals the intuitive, discerning skill and wisdom of Joseph was crafted by him to establish if the hearts of his brothers had truly reformed over the years. Joseph demands that his blood brother Benjamin, the youngest and the life of his father Jacob becomes his slave. Remember both Joseph and Benjamin were the only sons born to Rachel. Judah steps up and offers to serve as a slave in the place of Benjamin. 

Genesis 44:33 Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers. 34 For how shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me, lest perhaps I see the evil that would come upon my father?”

Genesis 45:1 Then Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, “Make everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept aloud, and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard it. 3 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph; does my father still live?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed in his presence. 4 And Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” So they came near. Then he said: “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.

This act of Judah reveals that the hearts of his brothers have truly repented and reformed

JUDAH DEMONSTRATES THE HEART OF A REPENTANT LEADER AS HE OFFERS HIMSELF AS THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB FOR THE REDEMPTION OF BENJAMIN

Genesis 44:33 Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers.

JACOB PROPHESIES THAT THE SCEPTER (LEADERSHIP) WILL NOT DEPART FROM JUDAH.

Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

THE KING OF NINEVEH DEMONSTRATES CLEAR LEADERSHIP WHEN HE RESPONDS TO THE PROPHETIC WORD OF THE LORD THROUGH THE PROPHET JONAH. GOD FORGAVE THEIR SINS

É um trabalho de o Sagrado Espírito que resulta em virar ausente do pecado.

II Coríntios 7:10 Pois os piedosos tristeza produz arrependimento principal para salvação , não para ser lamentou ; mas o tristeza de O mundo produz a morte. 11 Pois observe isto. muito coisa , isso você entristecido em um piedoso maneira : O quê A diligência que isso produziu em você , o quê? limpeza de vocês mesmos , o quê? indignação , o quê? medo , o quê? veemente desejo , o quê zelo , o quê? vindicação ! Envolve virando ausente de pecado e retornando para o caminho certo .

Teshuvá significado :

Esse moderno sociedade é pressurização vítimas para perdoar deles infratores para o interesse de deles própria saúde mental e paz .

Penitência é claramente um processo Durante esses dias onde Estamos participando de o Sagrado Sacramentos no o Mesa de o Senhor , devemos contemplar esse processo que nos causa para retornar para o processo de Penitência e Perdão . Estamos participando . do Seu Corpo e Seu Sangue “em memória de Ele e Seu Terminado trabalhar sobre a Cruz.

Aqui é o pergunta que demandas Nossa resposta… Deveria perdão ser incondicional sem o Necessidade de arrependimento ?

Como fez nós todos receber perdão pelos nossos pecados​ nosso Senhor, Salvador e Redentor Cristo Jesus?

O pecado corporativo exige arrependimento corporativo.

CHARACTERISTICS OF HUMILITY: AGAPE LOVE
Agape love is the God kind of love. It is the highest, the most selfless kind of love, that could only comes from God.
God demonstrated His great love for mankind through His Son, Jesus. He set the pattern of love in action.
The love of God is clearly seen through the actions of Christ.This love ought also to be evident in the lives of the sons of God.
The Holy Spirit pours this love into the hearts of believers.
ROMANS 5:5
[5] And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.

The love of God is the love of all loves. It is matchless, indescribable, immeasurable.
JOHN 15:13-14 BSB
[13] Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. [14] You are My friends if you do what I command you.
CHARACTERISTICS OF GOD’S LOVE
*God’s love is Uninfluenced
God choose to love people
DEUTERONOMY 7:7-8
[7] The Lord did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than the other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. *God ‘s love is Eternal
EPHESIANS 1:4 -5

*God’s love is Sovereign
The sovereignty of God is choosing to love for His good pleasure.

• God’s love is Infinite
  No limit. Unfathomable
  EPHESIANS 3:19

• God’s love is Immutable
  His love is unchangable. Steady.

  God discipline His sons. He does not abandoned them.

His love is unmerited
JOHN 3:16

Agape love is the God kind of love

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;

God is love. The love of God in Christ is not proud, it is not puffed up. God’s love is seen in humility. Humility expresses the love of God.

Christ is the love of God and Christ epitomises humility.

Philippians 2:7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

The humility of Christ is : The loss of reputation 

“7 but made Himself of no reputation”

The words “made Himself of no” are derived from the Greek word “kenoo” (G2758), which means empty, void, to empty oneself, to divest oneself of rightful dignity by descending to an inferior condition, to abase oneself. (CWSB Dictionary)

Christ emptied Himself of His dignity and reputation in self humiliation. He did not defend Himself when faced with a barrage of false accusations. Christ has many titles but He left all that behind.

The loss of His will

7 …..  taking the form of a bondservant

The word “servant” is derived from the Greek word “doulos (G1401)” and means a slave, one who is in a permanent relation of servitude to another, his will being altogether  consumed in the will of the other. Generally one serving, bound to serve, in bondage (Romans 6:16-17)(CWSB Dictionary)

A servant suffers the loss of his own will. Jesus said :

Luke 22:42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

John 4:34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

The loss of His Glory – to put on human flesh 

7 …….    and coming in the likeness of men

Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

He became like sinful flesh

8 ……..  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself 

His loss of life

8  ……   and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus suffered the loss of life. His humility was driven by love. This is the mind of Christ

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus

Christ is love, and love is humble

It is the Agape love of God within the hearts of believers that causes us to endure and overcome suffering, for the sake of righteousness, which requires great grace. 

It is this process that produces and multiplies grace.

When we are “yoked to Christ we are yoked to His fullness of grace and truth

John 1:16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

The posture of humility driven by Agape love, that Jesus portrayed is despised and considered weakness by those that subscribe to the philosophy of “an eye for an eye”

It requires the Agape love of God to …….

• forgive sin
• remain kind when we are hard pressed on every side after extended periods of suffering
• remain calm and not behave rudely when we are being provoked and deliberately triggered
• to receive the offering and worship of a sinful woman with the alabaster box; to provide immunity for her in the house of the Pharisee. 

The one important caution to remember about Agape Love is that it …….

1 Corinthians 13:6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth 

There can be no rejoicing and peace within a prevailing culture of evil and wickedness. Jehu expressed this position well when he responded to Joram, the son of Jezebel. The presence of Jezebel in the church in Thyatira invited the judgement of sickness and death on the “disciples of Jezebel”. This was the Word of the Lord for His Church in Thyatira (Revelation 2:23). (New Testament church)

2 Kings 9:22 Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?”

So he answered, “What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?”

THE GREATEST EXPRESSION OF AGAPE LOVE IS JESUS LAYING DOWN HIS LIFE ON THE CROSS FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIM TO RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE

Romans 5:18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

AGAPE LOVE IS SACRIFICIAL – IT WILL COST US

Luke 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ 36 So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”37 And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”

Jesus uses a Samaritan in this parable as a vessel who demonstrates the Agape Love of God

LOVING OUR ENEMIES IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT AGAPE LOVE

Matthew 5:43 “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

JESUS TREATS JUDAS VERY WELL. JESUS CALLS JUDAS “FRIEND”

THIS REQUIRES THE AGAPE LOVE OF GOD

Matthew 26:48 Now His betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; seize Him.” 49 Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?”

Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him.

GOD USES INSTRUCTS HIS PROPHET HOSEA TO MARRY THE HARLOT GOMER TO DEMONSTRATE AGAPE LOVE TOWARDS HIS UNFAITHFUL AND IDOLATROUS PEOPLE

Hosea 1:2
2 When the LORD began to speak by Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea:
“Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry
And children of harlotry,
For the land has committed great harlotry
By departing from the LORD.”

The prophet Hosea needed to activate the AGAPE LOVE OF GOD
to marry Gomer the prostitute.

God wanted to demonstrate His Agape Love for His unfaithful and idolatrous people

The AGAPE LOVE OF GOD forgives evil and iniquity
BUT …….. Agape Love does not rejoice in it (1 Corinthians 13:6)

This is the reason the winepress (source of rejoicing) was closed when Israel was attacked by the Medianites. Agape Love does not rejoice in evil and wickedness

Judges 6:11
11 Now the Angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites.

WE MUST NOT FORGET OUR FIRST LOVE LIKE THE CHURCH IN EPHESUS

19 We love Him because He first loved us.

Before we knew the church
Before we knew our biological and spiritual parents
Before we knew Him, His ways and His Word He first loved us.

CARACTERÍSTICAS DA HUMILDADE: AMOR ÁGAPE

O amor ágape é o tipo de amor de Deus. É o mais elevado, o tipo mais altruísta de amor, que só pode vir de Deus.

Deus demonstrou Seu grande amor pela humanidade através de Seu Filho, Jesus. Ele estabeleceu o padrão do amor em ação.

O amor de Deus é claramente visto através das ações de Cristo. Esse amor também deve ser evidente na vida dos filhos de Deus.

O Espírito Santo derrama esse amor nos corações dos crentes.

 ROMANOS 5:5 E a esperança não nos decepciona, porque Deus derramou Seu amor em nossos corações por meio do Espírito Santo, a quem Ele nos deu.

 O amor de Deus é o amor de todos os amores. É incomparável, indescritível, imensurável.

 JOÃO 15:13 Ninguém tem maior amor do que este, que ele deu sua vida por seus amigos. [14] Vocês são Meus amigos se fizerem o que eu mandar.

Deus escolheu amar as pessoas

DEUTERONÔMIO 7:7 O Senhor não colocou Seu afeto em você nem escolheu você porque você era mais numeroso que os outros povos, pois você era o menor de todos os povos. [8] Mas porque o Senhor os amou e cumpriu o juramento que fez aos seus pais, Ele os tirou com mão poderosa e os redimiu da casa da escravidão, da mão do faraó, rei do Egito.

*O amor de Deus é Eterno

Efésios 1:4 Pois Ele nos escolheu nele, antes da fundação do mundo, para sermos santos e inocentes em Sua presença. Com amor [5] Ele nos predestinou para a adoção como Seus filhos por Jesus Cristo, segundo a boa vontade de Sua vontade,

*O amor de Deus é Soberano

A soberania de Deus é escolher amar por Seu bom prazer.

ROMANOS 9:13 Assim está escrito: “Jacó eu amei, mas Esaú eu odiei.” [14] O que então vamos dizer? Deus é injusto? Com certeza não!

▪ O amor de Deus é Infinito, sem limites. Insondáveis

EPESENSES 3: [19] do amor de Cristo, e conhecer esse amor que supera o conhecimento, para que sejam preenchidos de toda a plenitude de Deus.

▪ O amor de Deus é Imutáve

O amor Ele é imutável. Firme.

TIAGO 1:17 Todo presente bom e perfeito vem do alto, descendo do Pai das luzes celestiais, com quem não há mudança nem sombra mutante.

▪ O amor de Deus é Santo

Deus disciplina Seus filhos. Ele não os abandona.

HEBREUS 12:6 Pois o Senhor disciplina aquele que ama, e Ele repreende todo filho que recebe.”

 *O amor de Deus é Misericordioso

Seu amor é imerecido

JOÃO 3:16 Pois Deus amou tanto o mundo que deu Seu único e Filho único, para que todo aquele que crê nele não pereça, mas tenha vida eterna.

Conclusão

EPÉSIOS 5:[1] Sejam, portanto, imitadores de Deus, como filhos amados, [2] e ande com amor, assim como Cristo nos amou e se entregou por nós como uma oferenda sacrificial perfumada a Deus.

Amor ágape é o tipo de amor de Deus

1 Coríntios 13:4 O amor sofre por muito tempo e é bondoso; O amor não inveja; O amor não se exibe, não é inflado; 5 não se comporta de forma rude, não busca o seu próprio, não é provocado, não pensa em mal;

Deus é amor. O amor de Deus em Cristo não é orgulho, não é inflado. O amor de Deus é visto na humildade. Humildade expressa o amor de Deus.

Cristo é o amor de Deus e Cristo personifica a humildade.

Filipenses 2:7 mas não se fez de reputação, assumindo a forma de servo e vindo à semelhança dos homens. 8 E sendo encontrado de aparência humana, Ele se humilhou e tornou-se obediente até a morte, até mesmo a morte da cruz.

A humildade de Cristo é: A perda de reputação 

 “7 mas não se fez de reputação”

 As palavras “fez de não” derivam da palavra grega “kenoo” (G2758), que significa vazio, vazio, esvaziar-se, despojar-se da dignidade legítima descendo a uma condição inferior, rebaixar-se. (Dicionário CWSB)

 Cristo esvaziou-se de Sua dignidade e reputação em auto-humilhação. Ele não se defendeu diante de uma enxurrada de falsas acusações. Cristo tem muitos títulos, mas deixou tudo isso para trás.

A perda de Sua vontade

 7 ….. assumindo a forma de um servo vindo

 A palavra “servo” deriva do grego “doulos (G1401)” e significa um escravo, aquele que está em uma relação permanente de servidão com outro, cuja vontade é totalmente consumida pela vontade do outro. Geralmente um servindo, vinculado a servir, em servidão (Romanos 6:16-17) (Dicionário CWSB)

 Um servo sofre a perda de sua própria vontade. Jesus disse:

 Lucas 22:42 dizendo: “Pai, se for Tua vontade, tira este cálice de Mim; não que seja feita a Minha vontade, mas a Tua.”

João 4:34 Jesus disse a eles: “Meu alimento é fazer a vontade daquele que Me enviou e concluir a Sua obra.

A perda de Sua Glória – para vestir carne humana

 7 ……. e vindo à semelhança dos homens

 Romanos 3:23 pois todos pecaram e ficam aquém da glória de Deus

Ele se tornou como carne pecadora

 8 …….. E sendo reconhecido como homem, Ele se humilhou

 Sua perda da vida

 8 …… e tornou-se obediente até a morte, até mesmo a morte da cruz.

 Jesus sofreu a perda de vidas. Sua humildade era movida pelo amor. Esta é a mente de Cristo

Filipenses 2:5 Que esta mente esteja em ti, que também estava em Cristo Jesus

 Cristo é amor, e amor é humilde

É o amor Ágape de Deus nos corações dos crentes que nos faz suportar e superar o sofrimento, em nome da justiça, que exige grande graça.

É esse processo que produz e multiplica a graça.

Quando somos “ligados a Cristo”, estamos ligados à Sua plenitude de graça e verdade

João 1:16 E de Sua plenitude todos recebemos, e graça por graça. 17 Pois a lei foi dada por Moisés, mas a graça e a verdade vieram por Jesus Cristo.

A postura de humildade impulsionada pelo amor Ágape, que Jesus retratou, é desprezada e considerada fraqueza por aqueles que subscrevem a filosofia de “olho por olho”

É necessário o amor Ágape de Deus para …….

▪ Perdoe o pecado

▪ Seja gentil quando estamos pressionados de todos os lados após longos períodos de sofrimento

▪ manter a calma e não agir de forma rude quando estivermos sendo provocados e deliberadamente desencadeados

▪ receber a oferta e o culto de uma mulher pecadora com a caixa de alabastro; para garantir imunidade para ela na casa do fariseu.

 A única advertência importante a lembrar sobre o Amor Ágape é que ele …….

1 Coríntios 13:6 não se alegra na iniquidade, mas se alegra na verdade

Não pode haver alegria e paz dentro de uma cultura predominante de maldade e maldade. Jeú expressou bem essa posição ao responder a Jorão, filho de Jezabel. A presença de Jezabel na igreja em Tiatira convidava ao julgamento de doença e morte sobre os “discípulos de Jezabel”. Esta foi a Palavra do Senhor para Sua igreja em Tiatira (Apocalipse 2:23). (Igreja do Novo Testamento)

2 Reis 9:22 Agora aconteceu, quando Joram viu Jeu, que ele disse: “É paz, Jeú?”

Então ele respondeu: “Que paz, enquanto as prostituições de sua mãe Jezabel e sua bruxaria forem tantas assim?”

A MAIOR EXPRESSÃO DO AMOR ÁGAPE É JESUS ENTREGANDO SUA VIDA NA CRUZ PARA QUE AQUELES QUE ACREDITAM NELE RECEBAM A VIDA ETERNA

Romanos 5:18 Portanto, assim como por ofensa de um homem veio julgamento a todos os homens, resultando em condenação, assim por um ato justo de um homem o dom gratuito veio a todos os homens, resultando em justificação da vida. 19 Pois assim como pela desobediência de um homem muitos foram feitos pecadores, assim também pela obediência de um homem muitos serão feitos justos.

O AMOR ÁGAPE É SACRIFICIAL – VAI NOS CUSTAR

Lucas 10:33 Mas um certo samaritano, enquanto viajava, chegou onde estava. E quando o viu, sentiu compaixão. 34 Então ele foi até ele e enfaixou seus ferimentos, derramando óleo e vinho; e ele o colocou em seu próprio animal, o levou a uma estalagem e cuidou dele. 35 No dia seguinte, ao partir, tirou dois denários, entregou-os ao estalajadeiro e disse-lhe: ‘Cuide dele; e o que mais você gastar, quando eu voltar, eu te pagarei.’ 36 Então, qual desses três você acha que era vizinho daquele que caiu entre os ladrões?” 37 E ele disse: “Aquele que teve misericórdia dele.”

Então Jesus lhe disse: “Vai e faz o mesmo.”

Jesus usa um samaritano nesta parábola como um recipiente que demonstra o Amor Ágape de Deus

AMAR NOSSOS INIMIGOS É IMPOSSÍVEL SEM AMOR ÁGAPE

Mateus 5:43 “Ouviste que foi dito: Amarás o próximo e odiarás o teu inimigo.” 44 Mas eu lhes digo: amem seus inimigos, abençoem aqueles que os amaldiçoam, façam o bem aos que os odeiam, e rogem por aqueles que vos usam e perseguem maliciosamente, 45 para que sejam filhos de vosso Pai que está nos céus; pois Ele faz Seu sol nascer sobre os maus e sobre os bons, e faz chover sobre os justos e sobre os injustos. 46 Pois se você ama aqueles que te amam, que recompensa você tem? Nem mesmo os cobradores de impostos fazem o mesmo? 47 E se você cumprimenta apenas seus irmãos, o que faz mais do que os outros? Nem mesmo os cobradores de impostos fazem isso? 48 Por isso, vós serão perfeitos, assim como o vosso Pai que está nos céus é perfeito.

JESUS TRATA MUITO BEM JUDÁ. JESUS CHAMA JUDAS DE “AMIGO”

ISSO EXIGE O AMOR ÁGAPE DE DEUS

Mateus 26:48 Seu traidor lhes deu um sinal, dizendo: “Quem eu beijar, Ele é o Escolhido; capture-o.” 49 Imediatamente ele se aproximou de Jesus e disse: “Saudações, Rabino!” e o beijou. 50 Mas Jesus lhe disse: “Amigo, por que veio?”

Então vieram, colocaram as mãos em Jesus e o tomaram.

DEUS USA INSTRUÇÕES PARA SEU PROFETA OSEIAS A SE CASAR COM A PROSTITUTA GOMER PARA DEMONSTRAR AMOR ÁGAPE POR SEU POVO INFIEL E IDÓLATRA

Oseias 1:2 Quando o SENHOR começou a falar por Oseias, o SENHOR disse a Oseias:
“Vai, toma uma esposa de arreia e filhos de prostituição,pois a terra cometeu grande arreia ao se afastar do SENHOR.”

O profeta Oséias precisava ativar o AMOR AGAPE DE DEUS para se casar com Gomer, a prostituta.

Deus quis demonstrar Seu amor Ágape por Seu povo infiel e idólatra

O AMOR ÁGAPE DE DEUS perdoa o mal e a iniquidade, MAS …….. Ágape: O amor não se alegra nele (1 Coríntios 13:6)

É por isso que a prensa de vinho (fonte de alegria) foi fechada quando Israel foi atacado pelos midianitas. O amor Ágape não se alegra no mal e na maldade

Juízes 6:11 Agora, o Anjo do SENHOR veio e sentou-se sob a árvore de terebinto que estava em Ofra, que pertencia a Joás, o Abiezrita, enquanto seu filho Gideão debulhava trigo na prensa de vinho, para escondê-lo dos medianias.

NÃO DEVEMOS ESQUECER NOSSO PRIMEIRO AMOR COMO A IGREJA EM ÉFESO

1 João 4:19 Nós o amamos porque Ele nos amou primeiro.

Antes de conhecermos a igreja 

Antes de conhecermos nossos pais biológicos e espirituais. Antes de conhecermos Ele, Seus caminhos e Sua Palavra, Ele nos amou.

JESUS NOS CONHECEU ENQUANTO ESTÁVAMOS NO VENTRE DE NOSSAS MÃES
