When we come before God, alone in prayer, we often disclose the truth that resides in the depths of our hearts; a pouring out of our closely guarded emotions from our innermost beings. During these moments of interaction with God, our utterances are usually at their purest and most sincere state of expression.
We will study the disclosures of Jesus concerning Eternal Life in His final prayer to the Eternal Father.
John 17:2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
This is the final prayer of Jesus Christ, the One who has been sent by the Only True God. He is disclosing the key, foundational demand of all believers concerning “Eternal Life”.
Consider the fact that Jesus’ ministry on earth is drawing to a close. During this time He had been exposed to all types of operating systems and leaders in the religious sphere; He engaged the ruling, governing authorities of the land; He had engaged satan and the demonic realm; He now comes to a place, where He addresses His Father as “The Only True God”.
Let us examine the scriptures at the time when Lazarus was resurrected. Jesus is addressing Martha …..
John 11:40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”
Observe clearly the flow of events as they played out here. Jesus’ prayer to the Father did not focus on the resurrection of Lazarus. Although He wept He did not lose sight of who He is, He is Jesus Christ, the One Sent by the Only True God. He is declaring to the Father that the words of His prayer and the response of God is for the benefit of the witnesses standing by. The resurrection would validate the credibility and authority of Jesus as the One sent by the Only True God. The Father always hears His Son. It is the demonstration of the strength and integrity of this abiding relationship that neutralizes the spirit of unbelief. The One Sent by the Only True God is able to call Lazarus out of the tomb. If not, the words of Martha would prevail, and Jesus would be simply be regarded as the carpenter’s son.
This incident has two clear purposes
1. Martha, Mary and that community to witness the Glory of God
2. For the same crowd to recognize Jesus as the One Sent by God
“And this is eternal life, that they may know the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3)
Now, with this in mind, let us return to the final prayer of Jesus. It is a reflection as well a “report card” of all that Jesus has done during His short ministry. I would like to focus on two things that Jesus mentioned to the Father ….
John 17:14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
The Word God will cause hostility and hatred between those who have been baptised in the ways of the world and believers in the Triune God.
It is a day of great lamentation where we see the emergence of a hybrid counter culture, that is evolving from the marriage between the ways of the world and the adoption of some of the ways of God. Believers have structured their messages to receive the applause of those who are embedded in the ways of the world. The early believers were hated by the world because of the message they carried; the call for reformation and change will always intimidate those who were comfortable in the broad way. Jesus declared to the Father that He is hated by the world
John 5: 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.41 “I do not receive honor from men.
The Jews whom Jesus was addressing were exposed for not having the Word of the Lord abiding in them. They relied copiously on the Laws of Moses, yet refusing to acknowledge Jesus as the promised Saviour and Messiah, the gateway to Eternal Life.
The second point that I would like us to examine is this :
PROTECT THEM FROM THE EVIL ONE. John 17:15(b) ……. but that You should keep them from the evil one.
Let us examine the meaning of the Greek Word “keep”. tēréō; a warden, guard. To keep an eye on, watch, and hence to guard, keep, obey. Particularly to observe attentively, keep the eyes fixed upon, or a custom meaning to perform watchfully, vigilantly (Extracted from CWSB Dictionaries)
Jesus and the Father are ONE in the Godhead. Jesus is speaking the mind of the Father. The Father did not keep Adam from the tree in the Garden. Adam was simply given the Word (instruction). In the Garden immunity from the evil one was activated by obedience to the Word and direct commands of God. Nothing has changed. Divine Immunity is conferred through the believer’s obedience to the Word of God.
This is the reason Jesus first informs His Father, in His prayer, that He has given His disciples the Word of God. There can be no immunity outside obedience to the Word of God. Faithfulness to His Word attracts the attention of the One whose characteristic feature is being True and Faithful. God does not take us out of the world to escape trials and afflictions. He keeps us (protects and sustains us during our various challenges)
All representative leadership structures operating in the church on the earth , including the father/son wineskin, must use these Divine patterns to achieve the highest possible standards in our representation of the culture within the Holy Trinity.

João 17:2-3 Pois lhe deste autoridade sobre toda a humanidade, para que conceda a vida eterna a todos os que lhe deste. Esta é a vida eterna: que te conheçam, o único Deus verdadeiro, e a Jesus Cristo, a quem enviaste.
Esta é a oração final de Jesus Cristo, Aquele que foi enviado pelo Único Deus Verdadeiro. Ele está revelando a demanda fundamental e fundamental de todos os crentes a respeito da “Vida Eterna”.

Observe claramente o fluxo dos eventos conforme eles se desenrolam aqui. A oração de Jesus ao Pai não se concentrou na ressurreição de Lázaro. Embora Ele tenha chorado, Ele não perdeu de vista quem Ele é, Ele é Jesus Cristo, Aquele Enviado pelo Único Deus Verdadeiro. Ele está declarando ao Pai que as palavras de Sua oração e a resposta de Deus são para o benefício das testemunhas presentes. A ressurreição validaria a credibilidade e autoridade de Jesus como o enviado pelo único Deus verdadeiro. O Pai sempre ouve Seu Filho. É a demonstração da força e integridade desse relacionamento duradouro que neutraliza o espírito de descrença. Aquele enviado pelo único Deus verdadeiro é capaz de chamar Lázaro para fora do túmulo. Do contrário, as palavras de Marta prevaleceriam, e Jesus seria simplesmente considerado o filho do carpinteiro.
Este incidente tem dois objetivos claros:
1. Marta, Maria e aquela comunidade para testemunhar a Glória de Deus.
2. Para que a mesma multidão reconheça Jesus como o Enviado de Deus.
“Esta é a vida eterna: que te conheçam, o único Deus verdadeiro, e a Jesus Cristo, a quem enviaste.” (João 17: 3)
Agora, com isso em mente, voltemos à oração final de Jesus. É também um reflexo de um “boletim escolar” de tudo o que Jesus fez durante Seu breve ministério. Eu gostaria de me concentrar em duas coisas que Jesus mencionou ao Pai…
João 17:14-16 Dei-lhes a tua palavra, e o mundo os odiou, pois eles não são do mundo, como eu também não sou. Não rogo que os tires do mundo, mas que os protejas do Maligno. Eles não são do mundo, como eu também não sou.
A Palavra de Deus causará hostilidade e ódio entre aqueles que foram batizados nos caminhos do mundo e os crentes no Deus Triúno.
É um dia de grande lamentação onde vemos o surgimento de uma contracultura híbrida, que está evoluindo a partir do casamento entre os caminhos do mundo e a adoção de alguns dos caminhos de Deus. Os crentes estruturaram suas mensagens para receber os aplausos daqueles que estão inseridos nos caminhos do mundo. Os primeiros crentes eram odiados pelo mundo por causa da mensagem que transmitiam; a chamada para reforma e mudança sempre intimidará aqueles que se sentiam confortáveis no caminho mais amplo. Jesus declarou ao Pai que Ele é odiado pelo mundo.
João 5:38-41 nem a sua palavra habita em vocês, pois não crêem naquele que ele enviou. Vocês estudam cuidadosamente as Escrituras, porque pensam que nelas vocês têm a vida eterna. E são as Escrituras que testemunham a meu respeito; contudo, vocês não querem vir a mim para terem vida. “Eu não aceito glória dos homens,
Os judeus a quem Jesus se dirigia foram expostos por não terem a Palavra do Senhor habitando neles. Eles confiaram copiosamente nas Leis de Moisés, mas recusando-se a reconhecer Jesus como o Salvador e Messias prometido, o portal para a Vida Eterna.
O segundo ponto que gostaria que examinássemos é este:
OS PROTEJA DO MALIGNO. João 17:15 (b) … mas que deves mantê-los longe do maligno.
Vamos examinar o significado da palavra grega “manter”.

Jesus e o Pai são UM na Divindade. Jesus está falando a mente do pai. O Pai não afastou Adão da árvore no Jardim. Adão simplesmente recebeu a Palavra (instrução). No Jardim, a imunidade do maligno foi ativada pela obediência à Palavra e aos mandamentos diretos de Deus. Nada mudou. A imunidade divina é conferida através da obediência do cristão à Palavra de Deus.
Esta é a razão pela qual Jesus primeiro informa a Seu Pai, em Sua oração, que Ele deu a Seus discípulos a Palavra de Deus. Não pode haver imunidade fora da obediência à Palavra de Deus. A fidelidade à Sua Palavra atrai a atenção Daquele cuja característica é ser verdadeiro e fiel. Deus não nos tira do mundo para escapar de provações e aflições. Ele nos mantém (nos protege e nos sustenta durante nossos vários desafios).
Todas as estruturas de liderança representativas operando na igreja na terra, incluindo o odre pai/filho, devem usar esses padrões Divinos para alcançar os mais altos padrões possíveis em nossa representação da cultura dentro da Santíssima Trindade.
