Part of the sermon by Eleanor Govender of CCF International Church South Africa.

We are in a season of complete understanding of the father / son relationship. This model has been revealed to us in accurate measure. The importance of the fulfillment of this relationship is what will ultimately establish the eternal purposes of God in the earth.

The ability of  the accurate vision of a father to be fully manifested in the earth is imperative  to complete God’s desired mandate for His people. Not all fathers are able to set out the plans and execute them to completion. The unexpected entrance of death at the door of the church or maybe the fathers desire to enter a period of rest finds sons catapulted into the limelight to take over the baton.

Sadly though we are surrounded by an orphaned generation who by choice, choose not to submit to a spiritual father resulting in the premature death of a vision that was supposed to transcend generations. As a result aborting the fullness of life that God has in store for us.

We need to understand the role of the father (the visionary), the role of the son and the unique people God would allow in our lives to ultimately make way for His glory to be seen in the earth.

Lets look at David as our study of the father model. Yes there are numerous other men that could have been chosen who also fathered well. But in this season we search for maturity not perfection. David has a flawed life like many of our fathers but just like them he has a heart after God and was willing to collaborate with God in raising sons of purpose.

David’s time in the bible was littered by the ungodly and ruthless practices of the reign of Saul. God’s chosen people were coming to a turning point in their history. God relentlessly searched and probed the earth for men and women who would bear sons of promise. He found such a man in David.

We know of David’s mighty exploits for God. We know of his heart that was always after God. But we need to go back and study his ability to patiently mentor his son Solomon for kingship. The life of Solomon, David’s son of promise illustrates the outworkings of God’s will in a son through the strategic planning of a father. Solomon was always submitted to Davids’s leadership and this transfer of grace is only possible with a face to face relationship with the father. A relationship that is absent in the church today. Fathers of churches have patiently invested in their sons all that is revealed to them by the spirit but unfortunately kingship for present day sons eludes them like the light of day that fades too quickly on a lovely afternoon.

2 Samuel 24 :18
18. “And Gad came that day to David and said to him, go up erect an alter to the lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

The story is taken up after a great plague has struck the land. David is given prophetic instruction to build an altar on the threshing floor of Araunah. This action ends the plague. The threshing floor is a place of separation. Grain is separated from chaff. The threshing floor was usually situated in a place that was high up so that the floor was in the path of the wind. You see the wind assisted in the separation process. This is symbolic of the divine sifting that happens in our lives. The fathers of church have died to themselves in order to deliver accurate reform. We see in this story David’s concern for the sheep  over himself. Its the principle of self sacrifice. His ability to go to Araunah when he could have summoned Araunah to him is indictative of the sacrifice of his substance. He was King. Aruanah meets with him and wants to give him the threshing floor and all that is in it. He refuses. He buys it. He refuses to offer a sacrifice on a ground that costs him nothing. ( 2 Samuel 24: 19- 25).

Fathers  purchased ground at great cost to themselves. Its the foundational principle on which sons should start. David sowed a seed for Solomon’s temple. David’s sacrifice was the ground for Solomon’s promotion. The sacrifice of our fathers must launch sons into greater glory.

Sadly though many times the treasure of the precious truth that is in the father is not unlocked by sons. What would happen if fathers could successfully transfer to their sons, their grace, their anointing, their vision, the secret things of God revealed by the Spirit, their righteousness, into three or four generations of sons. The answer is simple. They will inherit the earth.

David planned everything that was needed for Solomon to succeed.

2 Chronicles 1
” Solomon, son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom”.

As sons in this season we must be able to take over the baton. We must know who we are and must be confident of our sonship.

2 Chronicles 1: 7
“That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give to you”

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him “ask for whatever you need”. At that point Solomon was not the wisest man on the earth he was a son who was thrown into the deep end. The Bible records that the children of Issachar had understanding of the sign of the times. And so did Solomon. He must have known that wisdom was all he needed to be be victorious at that time in his life. He asked for the right thing and was given everything else. As sons we need to be able to discern accurately what we require in order to fulfill the vision. Only after engaging God did Solomon go to Jerusalem and reign over Israel ( 2 Chronicles 13). As sons do not forget to engage the Lord, all ability comes from Him.

2 Chron 2:3-4

3 Solomon sent this message to Hiram king of Tyre:

“Send me cedar logs as you did for my father David when you sent him cedar to build a palace to live in. 4 Now I am about to build a temple for the Name of the LORD my God and to dedicate it to him for burning fragrant incense before him, for setting out the consecrated bread regularly, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening and on Sabbaths and New Moons and at the appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is a lasting ordinance for Israel.
Solomon contacts the King for help. As sons pride need to bow its knee to the fulfillment of the vision.

2 Chronicles 2 :13
” I am sending you Huram Abi a man of great skill…… ”

Huram Abi was sent to Solomon. A man whose parents were from Tyre and Dan.These cities were steeped in idolatry. A man out of the faith was sent to construct the temple. One sent to craft out the vision set out by David.

God is raising up today Huram Abi’s to be launched into our midst to take the vision forward. We need to receive them as ones sent by God. Do not despise them. Huram Abi was able to walk directly into God’s plan for his life. Is this not rapid upgrade? His assignment was to work with the son to complete the vision.

The Bible records that Huram Abi was able to execute any design given to him. Sons like Huram Abi are needed. When he was done designing and creating all the panels, objects and artifacts for the temple then only was Solomon ready to build the foundation. The Bible states that it was difficult to weigh the goods produced. Sons, the weight of Huram Abi’s value to the Kingdom cannot be measured.

Remember that the foundational principle of the threshing floor is what the father requires us to build on. The ground was purchased at great cost.
2 Chron 3:1-2

3:1 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.
Sons do not leave the ground provided by your father, barren, dry, desolate and parched. Araunah means joy. Lets embrace the challenge of sonship with the spirit of joy.

Many preachers have been critical of Laban’s treatment of Jacob during Jacob’s time with his uncle.

I am sure Laban has his side of the story to tell….his perspective.

Laban and Jacob were family. As leaders of congregations many of us have relatives sitting in our congregations. We know this about our relatives … they know all our secrets. They are fully knowledgeable about all the events of our life. They know our strengths and our weaknesses. They can recapture with great joy, as if it happened yesterday all your failings from 20 years ago.

Could this have possibly happened to Laban as he remembered the

events surrounding the birth of his sister’s child.

That he had an obligation to take in a member of his family.

Gen 29:14

14 And Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him for a month.

With a name like Jacob, meaning a supplanter, deceiver or a rogue it must have been difficult for Laban to give this young man a free reign over his field. No wonder God changed the boy’s name.

The word “supplanter” simply means one who takes the place of someone else, often by trickery or by force.

Jacob was perfectly named by his parents. He immediately started “supplanting” during his birth (Gen 25:26). He continued to take the possession of others…his brother’s birthright; his father’s blessing (Gen 27: 1-29)

It would seem that Jacob’s reputation preceded him as he came into Laban’s field. Hence the 20 year relationship.

We can fast track everything, except a relationship. Relationships have to be built. In this season we desire marriage; not a casual affair. In fact there is one relationship that can be fast tracked…it is the one with the harlot whose sole focus is on concluding a financial transaction.

ELECTIVE CAESAR vs NATURAL CHILDBIRTH

This is a statement by obstetrician Dr Douglas

Dumbrill.

One in three mothers in South Africa who delivers in the public sector gives birth via Caesarean section. In the private sector, two in three mothers or more deliver their babies via Caesarean section. It’s a trend that has been steadily increasing over the past decade. In 1985, the World Health Organisation recommended a target rate of 15 per cent, which was calculated by experts but no data was issued to support this figure.

There is no doubt that too many Caesareans are being performed. Both patients and doctors are responsible for this. All prospective parents, midwives and doctors have a common aim: a healthy mom and healthy baby. However, our views and perspectives differ.

What is your view on this new trend of “designer

childbirth”?  Start blogging.

ALLOW THE TARES TO GROW

ALLOW THE TARES TO GROW

Matt 13:24-30

24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.'”

Matt 13:36-43

36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

We all realise that the world has now come into the Church. That the field is now your local Church where the truth and the false co exist. Where Church is attended by two types of believers:

  • Those who are influenced by the Word of the Lord
  • Those who are influenced by the demonic realm

I would like us to focus on the present day treatment of the weeds….those who have been planted in our side to be a constant source of irritation and frustration for Church leaders worldwide. These weeds have no apparent purpose in our field; they utilise all the natural resources. Our merciful God does not withhold the rain from these weeds. The whole field gets refreshed; yet the weed will continue in its own way serving its father the evil one whose mission has never changed: to rob, kill and destroy.

The servants represent us, Church leaders whose first reaction is to “sort them out”. We must be careful and not get caught up in doing the work of the Holy Spirit. All we do is keep on speaking the Word; in our homes, in the Church; to your associates.

The Lord Jesus has a “restraining order” in place to prevent His servants from harassing and uprooting “weeds” in His vineyard.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest.

The reason the Lord wants us to leave the weeds alone is because of His overwhelming love and concern for the wheat. He does not want us to do anything that would place us in danger ; anything that would interfere with our growth. To understand this clearly think about an armed robbery in a packed shopping mall. The police show up. They cannot open fire because of the innocent bystanders. They have to hold their fire. The taking of hostages is a common criminal practice. As long as the good seed is present the weed will be safe.

The false brethren (the weeds) find security by dwelling in the midst of a righteous company. They know that God would not place His precious family in harm’s way.

Gen 18:20-26

20 Then the LORD said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous 21 that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”

22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.   23 Then Abraham approached him and said: “Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing–to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

26 The LORD said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

The evil seed will be dealt with at the end of the age. Where Jesus our Lord will pronounce the judgement. At that time the reapers will do their job. Unfortunately the wicked think that God loves them so much that He has spared them; so they continue to wreak havoc in the midst of the righteous. We can conclude that God loves the righteous, and for their sake has spared the whole field.

THE RIGHTEOUS MUST SHINE

Isa 60:1-5

Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.

2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you,

And His glory will be seen upon you.

3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

4 “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; Your sons shall come from afar,

And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.

5 Then you shall see and become radiant, And your heart shall swell with joy; Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.

The demand of this season is for the glory of the Lord to be seen upon the righteous. In the midst of darkness, in the midst of a deep darkness that covers the earth, the light of the righteous must shine; This is not a flame that is flickering out; it is a fire that is burning bright. The Lord must arise over you. Unless the Lord occupies an elevated position in your life…the crowd around you will only witness your light.

They will be exposed to the manifestations of your limited human intelligence. Your ways must be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit.

Our sons will come from afar. We are already experiencing this level of glory.

The angel Gabriel told Mary:

Luke 1:35

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.

Let us be overshadowed by the Holy Spirit ….. and allow the Light, which is the Lord Jesus Christ to shine through us.

Our sincere congratulations to Ps Brenden and Lushy Naidoo upon the second anniversary of Praise Church South Africa. Ps Brenden and the congregation are covenant partners with us at the Highway Word Forum and are highly respected leaders in our local community. Well done!

Ps Selvin and his wife Lolly Reddy of Wyebank Christian Fellowship and their congregation celebrate their first year in ministry this week end. Ps Selvin Reddy is a highly respected minister of the gospel in Wyebank just outside of the city of Durban in South Africa. He is also part of a coalition of like minded men of God that gather regularly under the banner of the Highway Word Forum. We wish his ministry good success as we build together in His Kingdom.

ALLOW THE TARES TO GROW

Matt 13:24-30
24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 “He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 “But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ‘ ”

Stay expectant and meditate on this word …. I will release the revelation over this week end.

Pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 or SWINE FLU

 1.1   What is pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 virus?

A new strain of influenza A (H1N1) virus that has never before circulated among humans has been found. This virus is unrelated to previous or current human seasonal influenza viruses. This is commonly known as “swine flu” and “novel flu”.

 1.2   Transmission

The virus spreads from person-to-person. It is transmitted as easily as the normal seasonal flu and can be passed to other people by exposure to infected droplets expelled by coughing or sneezing that can be inhaled, or that can contaminate hands or surfaces. To prevent spread, people who are ill should cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, stay home when they are unwell, clean their hands regularly, and keep some distance from healthy people, as much as possible.

1.3   Typical signs and symptoms of infection

Signs of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 are flu-like, including:  fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat and runny nose, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.

2. Case definitions for identification of pandemic influenza A(H1N1) 2009

The symptoms of pandemic influenza are non-specific and may be similar to seasonal influenza infections. The case

definitions below will enable you to recognise a case that may be infected with pandemic influenza, and classify them into one of two categories:

2.1 ILI (Influenza Like Illness) – Mild Disease:

  • • An individual with recent onset of an influenza-like illness (ILI), which may include fever ≥380C PLUS ONE OR MORE of the following acute respiratory symptoms (sore throat, rhinorrhoea / nasal congestion, cough or other signs part of the respiratory complex, myalgia, diarrhoea ).

2.2 SARI (Severe Acute Respiratory Infection) – Moderate to Severe Disease:

  • Persons 2 days to < 3 months old:

o Any child with diagnosis of suspected sepsis or physician diagnosed lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI)

irrespective of signs and symptoms. Patient presenting within 7 days of the onset of illness.

  • ≥ 3 months old to < 5 years old:

o Any child ≥ 3 months to < 5 years with physician-diagnosed acute lower respiratory infection (LRTI) including

bronchiolitis, pneumonia, bronchitis and pleural effusion. Patient presenting within 7 days of the onset of illness

  • ≥ 5 years old:

o Any person presenting with: sudden onset of fever (>38oC) AND cough or sore throat AND shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing with or without clinical or radiographic findings of pneumonia. Patient presenting within 7 days of the onset of illness.

2.3 Features of severe illness

The criteria for severe pneumonia according to the WHO integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI) guidelines are below:

a.       Any child age 2 months up to 5 years with:

a.       Cough or difficult breathing, AND with

b.      Any general danger signs (unable to drink or breast-feed, vomits everything, convulsions, lethargy or

b.      Unconsciousness), OR

a.       Chest in drawing or stridor in a calm child.

c.       Severity criteria in adults of any age group include: respiratory distress, dyspnoea, hypotension and / or evidence of hypoxia.

3. Who should be tested?

As of 16 July 2009, the laboratory testing strategy has been modified to only conduct testing if a clinical decision warrants these investigations.

Therefore, testing is only recommended for the following patients:

  • • Patients who meet the SARI case definition (i.e. severe infections) where a laboratory diagnosis will assist in patient management or patients hospitalised due to a lower-respiratory infection, and where no other explanation for illness is indicated and influenza forms part of the differential diagnosis.
  • • Patients with co-morbid disease and at risk for serious complications and who are symptomatic with SARI or ILI should be considered for testing if it will guide clinical management.
  • • Clusters of cases where a diagnosis of the cause of the outbreak is needed.
  • • An individual who has died where pandemic influenza A (H1N1) is suspected as the cause of death.

4. Case Management & Infection Control

4.1 Mild cases

  • • Mild cases do NOT require confirmatory laboratory testing and should NOT be admitted to hospital. They should be advised to isolate themselves at home for 7 days after the onset of symptoms and managed symptomatically.
  • • Supportive care at home is adequate for recovery. Provide the patient with advice which should include: resting, drinking plenty of fluids and keeping warm and dry. Use a pain reliever for head and muscle aches. Non-aspirin pain relievers should be used by children and young adults due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome.
  • • Antiviral medication is NOT recommended for mild cases or contacts not at risk for development of severe disease unless these patients are at high risk for serious complications of influenza.
  • • Patients at high risk for serious complications of influenza should be offered antiviral therapy at the discretion of the attending physician.
  • • The patient and their contacts should be given infection control guidance as follows:

o Regular hand washing with soap and water

o Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing (or use the upper part of your sleeve).Dispose of used tissues in a dustbin, and then wash hands with soap and water.

  • • Contacts of cases should stay at home at the first sign of illness and follow guidelines as above. They should seek medical care only if required.

4.2 Moderate to severe cases

  • • Cases with moderate to severe illness (based on a clinical assessment) that require hospital admission should be managed as follows:

o Where possible these cases should be isolated in their own room with the door closed for the duration of hospital stay. If discharged prior to day 7 of onset of illness, they can complete home isolation as outlined above.

o Droplet and contact precautions should be instituted.

o Health workers should wear a properly fitting N95 mask on entry into the patient’s room (if available).

o The patient should wear a standard surgical mask whenever he/she is required to leave the isolation room.

o Where separate isolation rooms are not available, suspected cases should be cohorted in a designated ward and the above precautions instituted.

o Oseltamivir should be used for treatment of moderate to severe cases (see section 4.3)

4.3 Treatment

Use of antiviral agents should be limited to persons with the following indications:

  • • Individuals with moderate or severe influenza-related illness, OR
  • • Any individual at high risk for serious complications of influenza and in whom treatment can be commenced within 2 days of onset of illness.

Oseltamivir (TamifluR) and zanamivir (RelenzaR) are active against influenza A and B viruses. Oseltamivir (TamifluR) is orally administered and is registered for use in individuals aged ≥1 year of age. Zanamivir (RelenzaR) is administered through an inhaler and is registered for use in individuals aged ≥ 12 year of age. Antiviral treatment with zanamivir or oseltamivir , should be initiated as soon as possible after the onset of symptoms.

4.4 Pregnant Women :

No clinical studies have been conducted to assess the safety of these antiviral for pregnant women. Because of the unknown effects of these drugs on pregnant women and their fetuses, oseltamivir or zanamivir should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the embryo or fetus; the manufacturers’ package inserts should be consulted.

4.5 Adverse events and contraindications

Consult manufacturers’ package inserts for further information on adverse events and contraindications for these anti viral drugs.
