Luke 24:18 Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, “Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?”
The two men who were walking with the Lord Jesus (the Son of God in another form) were disciples of the same Lord Jesus Christ.
The Greek Word for “disciple”
mathētḗs; to learn, to understand. A learner, a pupil. Mathētḗs means more in the New Testament than a mere pupil or learner. It is an adherent who accepts the instruction given to him and makes it his rule of conduct, for example the disciples of John (Matthew 11:2; Mark 2:18; Luke 5:33; 7:18; John 3:25); the disciples of the Pharisees (Mark 2:18). In John 9:28, the Pharisees told the healed blind man, “Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples.” Jesus had disciples in the sense that they believed and made His teaching the basis of their conduct. (Matthew 5:1; 9:19; 14:22; Luke 14:26, 27, 33; John 9:27; 15:8)

According to this definition, these two men sat under the teachings of Jesus, their conduct was in accordance with the teachings of Jesus, their doctrine was the doctrine of Christ, they were personally accustomed to the ways and manners of Jesus, yet …… they considered Jesus a stranger to them because the Son of God appeared to them in another form and their spirit could not identify with His Divine essence.
These two disciples had a perfect understanding of the Omnipresence of God, the Immanence and Transcendence of God, yet they were unable to discern the Manifest Presence of the Risen Christ walking with them. When we are “yoked to Christ” we have close proximity with Him because of the yoke. We are always conscious and aware of His Majestic Presence at our side. When we are “yoked with Christ” we are yoked to God the Son, God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit (The Holy Trinity); we are yoked to the Word of the Lord; His Presence is our ever present reality because of the yoke.
This Divine template of being “yoked with Christ” is used to formulate Biblical principles for governance and leadership in other covenantal relationships like the Father/Son wineskin. The institutional model of building is antithetical and diametrically opposed to the father/son (family) model of building in philosophy and functionality.
We must ask the Lord to give us a heightened sense of awareness and consciousness and to enhance our spiritual sensitivity to discern His Manifest Presence.
As we note in this incident, His disciples considered Jesus to be a “stranger in Jerusalem”.
Their theological training alone was not sufficient to enable them to discern His Manifest Presence in another form. They needed to embrace the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
The disciples of John in Ephesus did not know about the Holy Spirit
Acts 19:1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
These two disciples of the Lord Jesus represent a company of believers that is unable to discern the Divine nature of Christ in another shape or form (Son of God)
Jesus will remain a “stranger in Jerusalem” because of our fixation in validating people based on “outward appearances”. This company has its own traditional framework of reference on what Jesus should look like and we use this reference as a filter to validate sons of God.
There must be a company of disciples and sons of God that is able to discern the manifest Presence of God BEFORE the scriptures are opened ; before the scriptures are expounded from Moses and all the Prophets and all the scriptures concerning Jesus (Luke 24:27) ; the hearts of His disciples must “burn within them” when they encounter the Son of God. The Divine nature, the brilliance and radiance of His Divine effulgence in the son of God must be instantly discernible in any form, shape or gender. It has an “overshadowing” effect. When we begin the process of the configuration of Christ in us (Ephesians 4:11-16), we begin the process of building His Divine Nature.
Let us not be estranged from His Manifest Presence. This was David’s cry :
Psalms 51:11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Ministers of praise and worship …… Ask the Lord for greater spiritual awareness to host the visitation and manifestation of His Divine and Majestic Presence in our gatherings.
Consider the Manifestation of His Divine Presence in Elijah’s encounter ……..
First the Manifestation of His Presence, then the voice (Word) of the Lord ..
1 Kings 19:11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. 13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
The prophet Isaiah experienced the same encounter.
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
First the Manifestation of His Presence, then the voice (Word) of the Lord ..
Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

The second rest is rest for the soul
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
The second rest is to be found after you have come. This is the rest of one’s mind and emotions. It is an inward rest from a life of turmoil. It is peace. It is something that is discovered in a world of tribulation.
The world has many yokes, including debts, cares of this life – food, clothing and shelter – pressures of the past, sicknesses and diseases, injustices, family pressures, satanic oppression, religious oppression, legalism and traditionalism, drugs etc.
Requirements for finding soul rest
Matthew 11: 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me ….
The yoke is an implement (usually a wooden bar) that joins two animals together to walk together and work together.
The Old Testament yoke was tedious. The religious order added to it and made it a yoke of iron. What did Jesus mean when He said “take My yoke” ?
The yoke is symbolic of several principles that must be factored into the life of the believer for rest. These principles must govern the believer – the yoke ruling over the believer.
Nine principles for soul rest are encrypted in the symbol of the yoke :
- Manifest Presence of Go
- Lowliness/Humility
- Obedience/Submission
- Word of God/Voice of God
- Sonship
- Love
- Grace
- Self – denial
- Serving

NOTES ON THE MANIFEST PRESENCE

The yoke is symbolic of being joined to Him. This is a call to live in His Manifest Presence, bound to Him in intimacy. This reality is intimated by other symbolic passages as in Jeremiah 13 (the linen sash), John 15:1-8 (abiding in the vine) and passages about carrying the Ark of the Covenant.
The Manifest Presence upon Peter diffused the grace of healing to those in his proximity.
Acts 5:15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.
When the believer is joined (yoked) to Him, he is near the Lord – he dwells in His Manifest Presence. The scriptures identify three realities of God’s presence
God’s Omnipresence This is the attribute by which God is invisibly present in every part of the universe at the same time as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Jeremiah 23:24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places, So I shall not see him?” says the LORD; “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the LORD.
Ephesians 1:23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
God’s Indwelling Presence in all believers This may be referred to as the “saving” Presence of God.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
The Holy Spirit indwells every born again believer. The absence of the Holy Spirit in a person represents an unregenerated state.
Romans 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
The Indwelling Presence confers rest of the Spirit. This is the rest given to all believers.
THE MANIFEST PRESENCE
This is the “felt” or “tangible” Presence of God

Lucas 24:18 Então aquele cujo nome era Cleopasrespondeu e disse: “És o único estrangeiro em Jerusalém, e não soubeste as coisas que aconteceram lá nestes dias?”
Os dois homens que caminhavam com o Senhor Jesus (o Filho de Deus em outra forma) eram discípulos do mesmo Senhor Jesus Cristo.
A palavra grega para “discípulo”
mathētḗs; aprender, entender. Um aprendiz, um aluno. Mathētḗs significa mais no Novo Testamento do que apenas um simples discípulo ou aprendiz. É um adepto que aceita a instrução que lhe foi dada e faz dela sua regra de conduta, por exemplo, os discípulos de João (Mateus 11:2; Marcos 2:18; Lucas 5:33; 7:18; João 3:25); os discípulos dos fariseus (Marcos 2:18). Em João 9:28, os fariseus disseram ao cego curado: “Tu és seu discípulo; mas somos discípulos de Moisés.” Jesus teve discípulos no sentido de que acreditavam e faziam de Seu ensinamento a base de sua conduta. (Mateus 5:1; 9:19; 14:22; Lucas 14:26, 27, 33; João 9:27; 15:8)

De acordo com essa definição, esses dois homens estavam sob os ensinamentos de Jesus, sua conduta estava de acordo com os ensinamentos de Jesus, sua doutrina era a doutrina de Cristo, estavam pessoalmente acostumados aos caminhos e maneiras de Jesus, mas ainda assim …… eles consideravam Jesus um estranho para eles porque o Filho de Deus lhes apareceu em outra forma e seu espírito não conseguia se identificar com Sua essência divina.
Esses dois discípulos tinham uma compreensão perfeita da Onipresença de Deus, da Imanência e Transcendência de Deus, mas não conseguiam discernir a Presença Manifesta do Cristo Ressuscitado caminhando com eles. Quando estamos “ligados a Cristo”, temos proximidade próxima com Ele por causa do jugo. Estamos sempre conscientes e atentos à Sua Presença Majestosa ao nosso lado. Quando somos “jugados a Cristo”, somos ligados a Deus Filho, Deus Pai e Deus Espírito Santo (A Santíssima Trindade); estamos ligados à Palavra do Senhor; Sua Presença é nossa realidade sempre presente por causa do jugo.
Esse modelo divino de estar “ligado a Cristo” é usado para formular princípios bíblicos para governança e liderança em outras relações de aliança, como o odre Pai/Filho. O modelo institucional de construção é antitético e diametralmente oposto ao modelo pai/filho (família) de construção em filosofia e funcionalidade.
Devemos pedir ao Senhor que nos dê um senso aguçado de consciência e de consciência e que aumente nossa sensibilidade espiritual para discernir Sua Presença Manifesta.
Como observamos neste incidente, seus discípulos consideravam Jesus um “estrangeiro em Jerusalém”.
Sua formação teológica sozinha não era suficiente para permitir que discernissem Sua Presença Manifesta em outra forma. Eles precisavam abraçar o ministério do Espírito Santo.
Os discípulos de João em Éfeso não conheciam o Espírito Santo

Jesus continuará sendo um “estranho em Jerusalém” por causa da nossa fixação em validar pessoas com base em “aparências externas”. Esta empresa tem sua própria estrutura tradicional de referência sobre como Jesus deveria ser e usamos essa referência como filtro para validar os filhos de Deus.
Deve haver uma companhia de discípulos e filhos de Deus capazes de discernir a Presença manifesta de Deus ANTES que as escrituras sejam abertas; antes que as escrituras sejam explicadas de Moisés e de todos os Profetas e todas as escrituras sobre Jesus (Lucas 24:27); os corações de Seus discípulos devem “arder dentro deles” quando encontrarem o Filho de Deus. A natureza divina, o brilho e o brilho de Seu resplandor divino no filho de Deus devem ser instantaneamente discerníveis em qualquer forma, forma ou gênero. Isso tem um efeito de “ofuscamento”. Quando começamos o processo de configuração de Cristo em nós (Efésios 4:11-16), iniciamos o processo de construir Sua Natureza Divina.

Primeiro a manifestação de Sua Presença, depois a voz (Palavra) do Senhor…

O segundo descanso é descanso para a alma
Mateus 11:28 Vinde a mim, todos vós que trabalhais e estão pesados, e eu vos darei descanso. 29 Tomem Meu jugo sobre vós e aprendam de mim, pois sou gentil e humilde de coração, e vocês encontrarão descanso para as vossas almas. 30 Pois o meu jugo é fácil e meu fardo é leve.”
O segundo descanso será encontrado depois que você chegar. Esse é o resto da mente e das emoções de alguém. É um descanso interior de uma vida de turbulência. É paz. É algo que se descobre em um mundo de tribulação.
O mundo tem muitos jugos, incluindo dívidas, preocupações desta vida – comida, roupas e abrigo – pressões do passado, doenças e enfermidades, injustiças, pressões familiares, opressão satânica, opressão religiosa, legalismo e tradicionalismo, drogas etc.

Mateus 11:29 Tome Meu jugo sobre vós e aprenda de mim….
O jugo é um instrumento (geralmente uma barra de madeira) que une dois animais para caminhar juntos e trabalhar juntos.
O jugo do Antigo Testamento era tedioso. A ordem religiosa acrescentou a ele e o transformou em um jugo de ferro. O que Jesus quis dizer quando disse “pegue meu jugo”?
O jugo simboliza vários princípios que devem ser considerados na vida do crente para o descanso. Esses princípios devem governar o crente – o jugo que governa sobre o crente.
Nove princípios para o descanso da alma estão codificados no símbolo do jugo:
1. Presença Manifesta do Go
2. Humildade/Humildade
3. Obediência/Submissão
4. Palavra de Deus/Voz de Deus
5. Filhos
6. Amor

NOTAS SOBRE A PRESENÇA MANIFESTA
Trecho do livro “Descanse no Dia dos Perigos” – ABC Resource
O jugo é simbólico de estar unido a Ele. Esse é um chamado para viver em Sua Presença Manifesta, ligada a Ele em intimidade. Essa realidade é sugerida por outras passagens simbólicas, como em Jeremias 13 (a faixa de linho), João 15:1-8 (permanecendo na videira) e passagens sobre carregar a Arca da Aliança.
A Presença Manifesta sobre Pedro difundiu a graça da cura para aqueles que estavam por perto.
Atos 5:15 para que levassem os doentes para as ruas e os colocassem em camas e sofás, para que ao menos a sombra de Pedro passando caísse sobre alguns deles.
Quando o crente está unido (jugo) a Ele, ele está próximo ao Senhor – ele habita em Sua Presença Manifesta. As escrituras identificam três realidades da presença de Deus
A Onipresença de Deus Esse é o atributo pelo qual Deus está invisivelmente presente em todas as partes do universo ao mesmo tempo que o Pai, o Filho e o Espírito Santo.
Provérbios 15:3 Os olhos do SENHOR estão em todo lugar, vigiando o mal e o bem.
Jeremias 23:24 Alguém pode se esconder em lugares secretos, para que eu não o veja?” diz o SENHOR; “Não encho céu e terra?” diz o SENHOR.
Efésios 1:23, que é Seu corpo, plenitude daquele que preenche todos em todos.
A Presença Interior de Deus em todos os crentes Isso pode ser chamado de Presença “salvadora” de Deus.

1 Coríntios 3:16 Não sabe que você é o templo de Deus e que o Espírito de Deus habita em vocês?
1 Coríntios 6:19 Ou não sabe que seu corpo é o templo do Espírito Santo que está em você, que tem de Deus, e que não é seu?
O Espírito Santo habita todo crente nascido de novo. A ausência do Espírito Santo em uma pessoa representa um estado não regenerado.
Romanos 8:9 Mas vocês não são na carne, mas sim no Espírito, se de fato o Espírito de Deus habita em vocês. Agora, se alguém não tem o Espírito de Cristo, não é Seu. 10 E se Cristo está em vocês, o corpo está morto por causa do pecado, mas o Espírito é vida por causa da justiça.
A Presença Interior confere o resto do Espírito. Este é o resto dado a todos os crentes.
A PRESENÇA MANIFESTA
Esta é a Presença “sentida” ou “tangível” de Deus
